Unfortunately the EMA board believes the only qualified person is someone that’s either a policeman, fireman or public bureaucrat. The real problem is the board itself, whom just allowed two grants to expire means Butler County gets no money for emergency training exercises. This board, comprised mostly of small town township trustees needs to be dissolved and replaced with citizens that have far more experience.

Watcher isn’t watching very close. The EMA board also in addition to townships trustees has the mayors of two of the counties largest cities in the county, the police chief of the largest city and the fire chief of the second largest city. All thing considered the EMA Board is a very rounded group, much more than say the good old boys on the county commission. The loss of the training, exercises and grant dollars can all be credit to Don Dixon who ran of the director who had excelled in those areas for the past ten years.

I’ve hear that the reason Turner was so willing to leave was that he realized that most of the grants he had obtained were going to have to be returned to the state because the commissioners had delayed so long in starting construction on the new operations center. Keep in mind that the board ask Turner to continue as director. I do know for a fact that Turner warned the EMA board and commissioners that the funds for training and to hold the yearly exercise would be lost if the agency went months without a director. The board ask him to stay on until a new director was hired and he declined citing problems with one county commissioner. It’s pretty clear both the EMA Board and the Commissioners lacked understand of the situation and had no plan for preventing these problems.

‘ve heard that the sheriff has already taken equipment that was part of the EMA, kind of flies in the face of his denials about being involved in Dixon’s efforts to run off Turner.

What!!!! Rick Jones didn’t apply? After spending the last five years wanting to be EMA Director I thought he’d apply. Guess he just want the equipment and money after all.

I here they have narrowed the list to six, anyone know who they are? If Bill Becker is one of the finalist will it not be a conflict of interest for the two gentlemen from Middletown on the EMA Committee to vote for a city council member which controls the budgets for their offices?

You can bet that Chief Bott’s is going to support Becker to the end for this job. The FD budget here is already strapped and Councilman Becker has never been a big supporter of the fire service anyway. Thus, Bott must support Becker or face even more cuts.

There would have to be conflicts all over with Becker as Director of the emergency management department. First Councilman Becker is the boss of Fire Chief Botts. Then Chief Bott’s is the boss of Director Becker. Both controlling each other operating budgets? Then there is Mayor Mulligan of Middletown also on the EMA Committee. Talk about good old boy politics, this would be over the top even by Butler County Republican standards.

Who’s fooling, Who. Don Dixon, Greg Jolivette and Rick Jones had Becker picked for this position from the start. You can go ahead and put Becker’s name on the door, this is a done deal.

The genius chained to the official table, should die or go mad, in the same way, as the person with a mighty constitution at sedentary life and modest behavior dies of an apoplectic seizure.
