Auditor announces 8 layoffs
Press release from Butler County Auditor Roger Reynolds:
Butler County Auditor Roger Reynolds today announced further reductions in his office budget as he eliminated the six-person Real Estate field office staff as well as two employees in the Consumer Services division.
The lay offs will result in annual savings to taxpayers of more than $500,000, said Reynolds, while the office will continue to provide the same customer service through more efficient processes.
“With the downturn in the economy there is very little new construction going on and we have completed our six-year, full reappraisal. While it’s always difficult to let people go, there just isn’t enough work to justify those positions,” Reynolds said.
Even before this latest round of cutbacks, Reynolds had already reduced the 2009 Auditor’s Office budget to its lowest total in six years. But taxpayer savings did not just begin this year. Within 150 days of taking office, Reynolds returned a surplus for the first time in over 10 years when he gave $250,000 back to the community through sound, disciplined spending and a commitment to do more with less.
‘From Day 1, I have set aggressive goals to reduce spending, reform government and return tax dollars,” Reynolds said. “This continues our streamlined approach to government and running this office.”

I know Don Dixon, and I know Roger Reynolds, and they both care very much about our county and the people under them, I wold imagine that this is tearing both of their guts out to see this type of thing happening.

I’m sure that the cuts in the Auditor’s Office were needed. However, it’s beyond despicable that 8 employees are losing their jobs while at the same time he is hiring Lisa Hurst from the Record’s Center. The timing was perfect. Get her taken care of and into a new position in another department, then cut all the employees in the Record’s Center. By the way, Lisa wears the proud badge of honor as a “Double Dipper”. Already pulling a full pension from the county and now a full salary from Roger Reynolds. Please tell us….What do you have to do to get that job ;) ;)

It’s like being on the Titanic, the lower paid people who do the work are being pushed over board at the county to make room for the people in high paid positions who are politically connected. If you look at county government you can already see the people that made government work are gone or leaving, soon only empty suits will remain.
