Chabot to run in 2010
Former U.S. Rep. Steve Chabot of Ohio has filed a federal statement of candidacy for the 2010 election, saying his unsuccessful re-election bid last November was partially sidelined by the candidacy of President Barack Obama.
Chabot, a Republican from Cincinnati, said “the Obama factor” boosted his opponent in the state’s most heavily black congressional district last year. He filed the statement Jan. 30.
Democratic state legislator Steve Driehaus unseated Chabot with 52 percent of the vote in the November election. Chabot said he thinks he has a strong chance to win in 2010 and expects his district, which includes western Cincinnati Hamilton County and parts of Butler County, to become more Republican after districts are redrawn.
“Hundreds and hundreds of people who were terribly disappointed in the results of the last election have encouraged me to run,” he said. “And I think it’s definitely the right thing to do.”
Chabot, now a practicing lawyer, called the current House stimulus package “a liberal wish list.”
Greg Mecher, Driehaus’ chief of staff, said the legislator was focused on working for his district, not on an election two years away.
“Congress is trying to pass legislation to pull the country out of the worst economic crisis in generations,” Mecher said. “Now is not the time for politics.”
Chabot represented his district for 14 years.

So Mr. Chabot thinks all those nice people who voted for his opponent, whereby causing his unemployment, were having a momentary spell of delusions. He thinks those poor poor deluded voters really really in their deepest of hearts wanted to continue the policies and lack of policies which have put them and their country on the brink of financial demise. Mr. Chabot, that kind of moronic thinking is exactly why you were tossed out. Get a job, or retire, but leave the work of governing to those who are more capable. Your record and the record of your party over the 14 years you wasted our Congressional seat showed excellent adherence to your party line but no idea of what this country needed.

Once again, Jim the esousal of YOUR party line reeks of extremism and finger pointing. At least Chabot was a true conservative, something that you know nothing about. The policies enacted by Clinton through the loosening of the financial market, i.e. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac contributed more to this economic breakdown than you will ever concede. Mr. Chabot, whom I have met is warm, caring individual. Driehaus, is looking more and more like the deer in the headlights and empty suit that he is. I bet that in ‘10, that the number of phantom voters who turned Hamilton County ‘blue’ will disappear and the Chabot may win re-election. And have you forgotten the percentages of votes in the Butler County portion of the district? Bet that made you happy! Why should facts ever get in the way of a good rant! Of course, I am looking for your wise and magnificient wisdom to espouse more poison, so bring it on Jimmy.

Um, Don? The FACTS are these: Driehaus defeated Chabot, in an area that is notoriously more Republican and conservative (however one cares to define that) than almost any area of Ohio, if not the nation. Argue all you want about which side is theoretically “right” — let’s talk about what actually happened, and is likely to happen in future. Many others wiser than I have pointed out that first-time voters, who made up a significant percentage of the total vote in November 2008, tend to stick with their “first love” — the party for which they cast their first major vote. That alone bodes ill for Republicans like Steve Chabot. That is in no way a value statement, simply a prediction of future behavior.

“And have you forgotten the percentages of votes in the Butler County portion of the district?” (Don Carpenter) Exactly what is your point? That Butler County voters are notorious in their inability to face facts? For some reason you think this is a good thing? Butler County has shown an abysmal record of picking the obviously wrong choice, probably more than any other county in the nation. You might think that is wonderful. I think it is shameful.”Mr. Chabot, whom I have met is warm, caring individual”(Don Carpenter)That’s nice. Now if we could add in the qualities of competence, intelligence, realism, the ability to spot lies and liars, the desire to help all the people, not just those who think exactly as you do, then you might have yourself a candidate. It is amazing just how seldom all those qualitites come together in a Republican candidate. What is even more amazing is the number of those who would vote for someone who has less than the desired and needed qualitites. (refer to Butler County voting records over the past 40 years) “extremisn and finger pointing”(Don Carpenter) Mr. Carpenter’s code words for “facts and the audacity to actualy point them out”. I wonder if Mr. Carpenter would use those words in refering to Limbaugh or Coulter or Hannity or Rove any of the other proud balanced individuals who are the voice and the soul of what Mr. Carpenter calls “true conservatism”? Mr. Carpenter, “True Conservatism” died when “true conservatives” sold their souls to people like G.W.Bush and those who knew how to lie and influence votes with tantalizing words, but, who, unfortunately had no idea about how to run a country. “Warm and caring” as Mr. Chabot may be, in your opinion, not giving a damn what happened to his country sort of makes me think he really isn’t all that “warm and caring”. I wonder if Barry Goldwater or William Buckley would root for a President, who is trying to save his country from a depression worse that the 30’s, to fail? I see a “Conservative Republican” like Rush Limbaugh, and I see a Traitor to our nation. Don’t you, Don?

Savanation, Rich: Save your breaths please. Everytime a Republican elected official’s name is brought up (present & past) Don Carpenter always runs his mouth about how warm, fuzzy and caring they are. Why?…because he has been trying to get one of them to hire him for the last ten years and still has had no luck even with all his blowing! They use him to do their grunt work during campaigns and then toss him to the curve until their next election comes along.
