Dog tag deadline extended
Butler County commissioners voted Monday, Feb. 2, to give dog owners until Feb. 16 to renew their dog tags before fees double.
Commissioners threw out the original deadline of Jan. 31 because last week’s snowstorm prevented some people from renewing their tags, according to the commission resolution.
Tags are available for $14 this week at the Butler County Auditor’s Office on the fourth floor of the county Administration Building in Hamilton. After Feb. 16, they will cost $28.
Dog tags can also be purchased through the agency’s Web site, www.butlercountyauditor.org; or through 53 vendors countywide, which are listed on the agency’s Web site.
This is the first year tags may be bought online, and the auditor’s office reported that 4,394 had been purchased on the Web site as of Monday, Jan. 26.
Ohio law requires all dogs three months of age or older be licensed through the auditor’s office. If animal control officers find a dog without a current license, the animal may be impounded.
