At least one county office is hiring
While most Butler County offices are cutting staff or in a hiring freeze while the county struggles to find $7 million in its budget, Butler County Auditor Roger Reynolds is taking people in.
Reynolds said he will likely hire four new people. He can afford to do this, he said, because he reduced his budget by more than 15 percent, to roughly $1.55 million from about $1.8 million. And the budget may shrink further, he said, as his office streamlines operations.
Reynolds said his office has sold 4,000 dog tag licenses online this year, the first year they’re available on the auditor’s Web site, which has saved tremendously on staff time.
Reynolds said he will advertise for all the new positions but one. That is Lisa Hurst, who will be transferred over from the county Records Center.

Just because he “can”, doesn’t mean he should. And, cutting it by 15% may make for a great newspaper headline, but let’s not forget that it comes off of Kay Rogers numbers so that likely isn’t really saying much anyway. I’d say start looking at it from a zero-based budget perspective and keep streamlining too. Then, and only then - especially when county revenues are declining, should he even consider adding more expenses.

When Roger Reynolds was running for County Auditor last year, he pledged to post all open jobs in his office…He even made the statement that he thought he could cut up to TWENTY POSITIONS! So what’s up with he is not posting the open position he is hiring Lisa Hurst into??? IT IS CALLED POLITICAL PAYBACK for her working on his campaign. Lisa Hurst is one of those County employees that has been moved around from county office to county office, received a big five year retirement buyout and let’s not forget the time she brought suit against the county.I AM WAITING TO SEE IF THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ARE GOING TO LET “RODGER, THE DODGER” GET AWAY WITH THIS when every other county dept. is slashing their bugets and laying off!!
