Hiring practices in Butler County

Don’t miss the series we published today on hiring practices in Butler County.

  • You can see a preview story here.
  • See a story about the roots of patronage in government hiring practices, and what may be done about it, here.
  • Read examples of recent and past hires at the county level, and about how some offices don’t advertise publicly for positions — instead hiring people they already know — here.
  • Read about the lasting legacy of well publicized nepotism and patronage in the county treasurer’s office here.
  • See what the Ohio Ethics Commission has to say about all this here.

So, what do you think?

Why in the world would you use Kay Rogers as a quoted source for this story? Let’s think about this one a bit…

Bob: It’s because Josh isn’t trying to get the story out on the practice of how hiring is done in the public. That ISN’T the story. The story is about all those evil Republicans who hire their friends. THIS is what I was trying to tell you on WMD… Josh isn’t interested in educating the public on the issue; he’s out to get Republicans… How else can one explain the absense of Judge Gattermeyer (D) in all of these exposes?

It’s about time this story came out. I would guess that about 20% of the county employees do not have the qualifications or experience to perform the work required by their position - I work for the County.
