The complaint against Patricia Burg
We now know exactly what the complaint is against Butler County Health Department Director Patricia Burg (read the story here).
Read a copy of the complaint against Burg below (BurgComplaint.pdf). The Board of Health has scheduled a special meeting Tuesday, April 29, to “discuss personnel issues.” Burg is still on administrative leave.

I really want to know what kind of history this woman has. Have there been other complaints? If she is the Director of the Department, she probably controls her personnel file and whatever is or is NOT in it. What do her performance reviews look like and did the staff have a say in those reviews? Who is her boss, some Board? And do they get a true picture of her performance when they see her likely only once a month for a couple of hours at best?

If she acts this way over PF Changs hep A situation. My question would be how would she act if someting major would happen? I wonder if all the staff will be asked any questions on her work performance and the way she treats them. I bet that would be interesting. maybe there is more than just this incident. I think this should be taken serious. It should not be swept under the rug.

The complaint hardy seems to come to the level of calling it an assault. This seems much to do over nothing.

Unless you work at the BCHD and know what a hostile environment it is then I suggest keeping your comments to yourself. I can provide many details on how hostile it can be.

I think it is time for the fine citizens to know some of the truths in our county. The Butler County Health Dept. is county government at its best. Lets start with the Health Dept Board. Does anyone know who the members of this board are? You would think that when you go to the health dept. website they would list the board members. There is a board member who represents each section of Butler County that the health dept. serves. Does anyone know how they are picked? Do you ever see annoucements in the media when there is an opening? Not me. Now with that said when I look at some of the names on the board they look like very fine citizens that are very knowledgeble and quailfied when it comes to public health matters. However, they meet once a month and they don’t know how the Butler County Health Dept. is really run. Let us look at the Director of the Butler County Health Dept. Pat Burg. She has been an employee of the health dept. since 1971. Did you know that she retired in 2005? Yes, another double dipper. She retired then was hired back in the same postion. What are her qualifications? Who knows, but the way she runs the health dept. you would guess she has never had any management training. Somebody who assaults another employee on one occasion, grabs the same employee on another occasion and drags her out of the door and also yells and screams at employees in front of others on numerous occasions tells me that she has no idea how to manage people. How about somebody who takes 3 hour lunches, shops at Jungle Jims and shops at the local malls during work hours. I almost forgot she also picks up her dogs at the dog groomer in the county car. It is time that questions are asked and answers given. This might have been the way the health dept. was run in 1971 but this is 2008.

Tomorrow night a decision is going to be made that may or may not cost the citizens their hard earned money. There has already been a law suit that has cost Butler County money because of the lack of management skills. This was the result of an injured employee and poor decisions that were made. The poor decisions were because of a lack of management skills. There is a closed Health Board meeting tomorrow night that is going to hear the results of the Pat Burg assault investigation. Doug Duckett is supposed to report the results of his investigation. Hopefully he has performed a professional and thorough investigation. Not only concerning the assault investigation but the common theme on how Pat Burg manages the Buter County Health Dept. There are other incidents that follow this same path. I mentioned the decision tomorrow night because there seems to be a health board member that has already made his decision before the results of the investigation has been presented. He has already stated that he supports Pat Burg. Hopefully members of the board read this before they make their decision. If any board member has already made their decision on the fate of Pat Burg I ask that you excuse yourself from any vote tomorrow night. I fear that the wrong decision tomorrow night will result in another law suit that will cost the fine citizens of Butler County their hard earned money.

If you really want to know about Pat Burg ask Don Phillips. A little bird told me about that.

Yes, Butler County citizens. I was a former secretary for Mrs. Burg. Everything is true. I would have to take her shopping at Jungle Jims and numerous other shopping outlets in and out of the county on county time. I was also told by Mrs. Burg that I had to use my comp time when these outings occurred. I knew that this was wrong but I needed a job and I knew if I made a complaint to Douglas Duckett, County Personnel Director or to any members of the Board of Health and if an investigation was made and no findings were found then I knew that I would have retaliation by Mrs. Burg. Anyone who ever stood up to Mrs. Burg or to Leslie Bishop the office manager was later fired due to performance or given the A-B plan one of Leslie’s famous sayings (Re-sign or be fired). I applaud Mrs. Anglin for standing up to Mrs. Burg. In the company policy handbook it states zero tolerance for this occurence. In my view Mrs. Burg has always been verbally abusive and now she has become physically abusive..if she is not terminated I am afraid that her aggresive behavior could lead to a more severe situation. Again, I commend Mrs. Anglin for standing up for herself and reporting this abusive situation. If justice is served and Mrs. Burg is terminated, then the current employees of BCHD can finally be themselves and come to work and not feel intimidated by no means and be able to do their job as they were hired to do so. It’s time to clean up what has been tarnishing the BCHD for over 35 yrs.

It is possible that Pat Burg came into the meeting already upset over a letter sent to Mr. Duckett and Mr. Simpson that pointed out several examples of her mismanagement and possible harassment. Most citizens would think that the BCHD has more important things to do, wouldn’t they?

Wow, there is so much anger and frustration towards Mrs. Burg. Unfortunatley, hiding behind anonymous comments over 35 years of abuse have not helped matters. Kudos to Ms. Anglin for having the courage to be forthcoming about an abusive situation. I wish her the best and perhaps the rest of you should model your actions after Ms. Anglin’s courageous behavior…at least she has enough respect for herself to not tolerate any form of abuse. Ms. Anglin you are an excellent roll model to your fellow employees and your family. You all MUST remember, we live in “the home of the free” BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE! Thank you Tricia.

If the posts listed here are true, then this person should be fired immediately. If she is double dipping, then fire her and the person responsible for her rehire. This must stop. Time to clean house from top to bottom in the management ranks. Start over with no nepotism or rehire policies. Voters- remember this when the next election is held. Vote all incumbants out-purge the system.

To: Leon Simpson Douglas Duckett When Mrs. Burg comes back in we all have to be ready to deal with the rath that she will subject us to. There will be yelling, insulting and constant intimidation. This is an unbearable work environment. How are we to function with the public in an appropriate manner? She will barge into the room in front of customers or not, and scream at innocent people who just happen to be in her path. The very qualified staff of our department will start resighning due to her return. We have had 2 resignations this month and there will be more when Pat returns. We do not deserve to be treated as if we are animals in need of verbal abuse. The mental strain has taken its toll on all of us. During the period that we have not had Pat Burg in the building, everything has gone very smoothly and there have been no episodes of panic attacts or emotional melt downs due to stress. This has to say something about her influence on the morral of the entire building. We have to have some assistance to remove her from control of this department. Anyone who stands up and speaks will be subject to serious retaliation. Please help us. There is going to be a multidude of people who will be forced to leave the department if this one person is not dealt with. She will not stop. Especially now that she thinks she can do anyting and get away with it. Please do the right thing and prevent Patricia Burg from ruining a very important part of our county.
