The Conklins

Butler County Commissioners have been in executive session behind closed doors since 9:30 a.m. discussing the findings of an internal investigation into whether County Administrator Derek Conklin played any role in pay raises and a retirement incentive plan that benefits his wife, Job and Family Services Assistant Director Karen Conklin.

See the story here.

They’ve just ordered lunch, and will hold a public meeting at 1:30 p.m. to take any action they deem necessary. Rumors are circulating, but nothing we feel is substantiated to print at this point.

I am sitting outside the meeting and will post an update as soon as something verifiable is known.

Other media reports now indicate both Conklins have resigned, effective IMMEDIATELY — with Derek Conklin’s cover story that he’s “lost the confidence” of the county commissioners. One wonders if this will end all inquiry into possible misconduct by him in regards to this retirement incentive program and his wife’s job reviews & pay raises. Let the chips fall where they may — let’s have a full-blown investigation!

They better investigate this fully or I hope come November they get thrown out of office.

“Concerned”, while many would agree with you, in THIS Republican-dominated county, it ain’t likely to happen. Chuck Furman defeated Rawnica Dillingham for the GOP nomination, and he’ll probably beat the relatively unknown Democrat, Butch Hubble. As for Don Dixon, he is apparently unopposed for election to his appointed commission seat. (He’s been a critic of this retirement buy-out scheme anyway!) The third commissioner, Greg Jolivette, isn’t up for election in November.

I am absolutely outraged by this story. I cannot believe Butler County would allow an official to overseas pay raises of his spouse. Unbelievable! The Captain

TO VOTERS OF BUTLER COUNTY: Do not keep voting the same people into office and expect different results. It’s time to clean house in Butler County Government.

Where are the checks and balances where someone in office could even have the power to promote their relatives. I think this is where the problem lies. How can the Conklins be held responsible for something that was approved my the commissioners? And who the heck is bacon bits??!
