Conklins resign

Both County Administrator Derek Conklin and his wife, Job and Family Services Assistant Director Karen Conklin, have resigned amid controversy.

See the story here.

“We did not find any evidence of criminal wrongdoing,” said county Personnel Director Douglas Duckett, though he said his investigation was cut short by the couple’s resignation.

He also said it was limited to whether commissioners approved all of Karen Conklin’s pay raises, not whether Derek Conklin used his position to help her secure those raises.

Financial audit needs to occur for all Butler County government employees. Frequency of raises, amount of raises need to be examined. Budgets and expenditures for each department needs to be audited also. If major violations are found, those responsible need to resign or be fired. Family members should not be hired. The Conklin situation should not occur again nor should tolerating unethical conduct/decisions within government. Fire the whole lot of them.

Pretty odd they both deided to retire, smells very fishy. I’d like to be able to retire with a full pension after 14 years on the job, don’t see that happening. From the sound of it, they should be pretty off is an accountant can pull in $116K a year and get a buyout of $400K. I never thought that government jobs paid that great. Glad to know someone is watching after my tax dollars, all the way to their wallets.

On the contrary, do not cut short investigations just because of Conklin’s resignations! What a cop out!!! Everyone is waiting for a REAL investigation on all the pay raises Chuck Furmon’s son-in-law has received…his entire pay history with the dates the County Commissioners voted on them for him!!!!

This is going require a Kay Rogers type of investigation. Have a feeling it be a whole lot worse. These people think they’re above the law.

It took a former Democrat, to raise his eyebrows, at what has been transpiring unimpeded for years, in Republican stronghold, Butler County. I am sure that upon an independent investigation, of Butler County, these abuses will be found to be commonplace. Maybe its time for a Democrat to get elected to keep Chuck and his good old boys honest.

Chuck Furmon needs to resign over the ridiculous pay increases for the job he created for his niece at the CSEA about 6 or 7 years ago. Check out who uses his parking garage card, too. I’m betting it’s a chick using it and not Uncle Chuck. Their brand of nepotism reeks and they “clean house” in departments to make it look like they are effective, when all they are doing is playing a colossal game of C.Y.A. Don’t look now, Chuck; I think your A. might not be covered any longer.

The commissioners approved all of Karen Conklin’s pay raises. I think this just goes to show that they are only there to go through the motions of County business. If it were not for Don Dixon we would never had heard of this. It was signed and delivered to Columbus by hand. Now Furmon is saying we need to look into this 100% in the future. HELLO,,,that is what we elected you to do in the first place. If he is re-elected Butler County is getting what it deserves.
