A colorful, sad reminder
Just received this press release from Butler County Children Services:
Pinwheels Bring Attention to Child Abuse in Butler County
To demonstrate the magnitude of child abuse in Butler County, Butler County Children Services will unveil its Pinwheels for Prevention display during a press conference on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. The pinwheels are a playful display that represent an ugly reality for Butler County. The display contains more than 2,800 pinwheels—one for every report of child abuse or neglect in 2006. It will remain visible to Fair Avenue motorists during the entire month of April, which is recognized nationally as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
When: Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 1:00 p.m.

In 2006, Butler County Children Services received 2,875 reports of child abuse and neglect. The Pinwheels for Prevention display is a month-long campaign designed to enhance community awareness about child abuse and neglect and encourage support for prevention.
As a part of the awareness activities the agency plans in April, the agency in collaboration with Calvary Christian Church will host Food For Thought: Appetizers and Information on Foster Care. A meet and greet event for families interested in becoming a foster or adoptive parent. The event will be held Thursday, April 10, 2008, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Calvary Christian Church, 2355 Jackson burg Rd, Hamilton Ohio 45011. It is open to the public.
The agency will present information during the press conference to help the community understand how they can support families as a means of preventing child abuse and neglect.
The Butler County Commissioners have been invited to the press conference. During the Commissioner’s Meeting that morning, the Commissioner’s will read the county’s proclamation declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
