Report: Ohio State, Michigan will be separated in 2011

This just in from The Associated Press:

PARK RIDGE, Ill. — Two people familiar with the Big Ten’s decision say the league has decided to put Ohio State and Michigan into separate divisions starting next season. One person also says Michigan and Ohio State will continue to play each other each year in the regular-season finale, as they have since 1943. According to the two people, one six-team division will include Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota and Northwestern, while the other will have Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Illinois, Purdue and Indiana. They spoke to The Associated Press on Wednesday on condition of anonymity because the Big Ten had not announced its decision. The breakdown was first reported by ESPN.com

Associated Presss Larry Lage in Ann Arbor, Mich., and Eric Olson in Omaha, Neb., contributed to this report.

‘Makes perfect sense to me to have a balance in the two divisions. The Big 10 has waited a long time to expand to a playoff - that extra BCS game - between divisions and this is good for the conference, the teams, and the fans. And this is coming from an SEC person! Go Bucks!

Yep …Both Universities support approximately 900 Athletes in Womens and Mens sports . Everyone is looking for more money to cover the cost of Div I college sports and Michigan and Ohio State have two of the biggest budgets with over 900 Athletes in many sports that don’t make a nickel …?

Why is it sad to make more money?

Penniless…LOL….you beat me to the punch….LOL….We’re either liberal socialists or greedy capitalists….LOL…..and we either want to marry a call girl or a virgin….LOL….Yeah, Penniless, what we need is ‘government’ intervention to really mess up the NCAA…..LOL…It’s funny those who complain about the money and greed in TV contracts and NCAA licensing are usually the ones who wear regalia from colleges they never attended….LOL…oh, well, everyone has a gripe these days. Good luck to the Big 10; I know their devout fans have high expectations and I think OSU and its opponents will deliver the goods.

Is it the media’s job to promote the negative?? This headline could have easily been “Bucks and Blue Could Play 2” and try to be more positive to the public!

My only concern with having UM and OSU in different conferences is that it could make the final regular season game between them irrelevent in years when both win their divisions. Scenario: Both teams enter the last reg season game in control of their divisions. One team wins the reg season finale, and the other team wins the championship game a week later. The teams finish 1-1 but only the second game really matters. In this rivalry, it hard enough to win ONE game, and having to win back-to-back games to win the prize is a mountain!

As long as we always get a least 1 OSU-Michigan game a year, I’m good. The possibly of 2 OSU-Michigan games a years is a plus! Just make the regular season game earlier in the season. The first game of the season would rock!
