Tressel’s contract extended through 2014 season

This just in from OSU:

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Gene Smith, Ohio State associate vice president and director of athletics, announced Tuesday head football coach Jim Tressel’s contract has been extended two years. The current contract, originally signed in 2008, will now run through Jan. 31, 2015 - the end of the 2014 football season.

“We wanted to reward Jim for his exemplary work with our football program and lock him in as our coach for an additional two years,” Smith said.

Tressel’s compensation package will not increase over the final two years of the deal, Smith said.

“Jim has never once come to me about compensation,” Smith said. “Jim has indicated to me he is satisfied with his salary. He is aware of the financial situation we all face in athletics and I am thankful for his service and loyalty to the goals of the department.”

“We are fortunate to have a wonderful university administration, athletics administration, coaching staff and players,” Tressel said. “To be able to continue building the Ohio State tradition alongside these people, along with our band, cheerleaders, fans and university community, is an honor.”

Tressel’s contract addendum is subject to the approval of the Board of Trustees at the May board meeting.

Great move, and with no salary increase? Kudos to OSU A.D. and to Coach Tressel for staying here. Regardless of the criticism he runs a clean program and gets us to a BCS bowl almost every year.

I loved the game scheme against Oregon in the bowl game. Stick to that recipe and 2010 should be a fun year.

I am a big fan of college football, and I have to say that year after year, Ohio State truly dominates the sport. The SEC and Pac-10 wish they had the success of Ohio State. Congrats Tressel!

Ohio State dominates the big ten, which is a cupcake Michigan is horrible. When Tressel choked against Purdue all you fair weather fans were calling for his head. Now since they are going to be ranked high at the start of the season you all put sweater vest back on the pedestal.Yes TP and the bucks played a good bowl game so congrats for that but again SEC rules Jimmy tressel

Great move. Tressel is what every coach should be. He expects his players to be good students, good people and good players. No, he can’t win every game, no one can. But, at the end of the day you can always be proud of the Buckeyes.

woodward, the sweater’s record against the sec speaks for itself. The fact Michigan’s win loss % the last 4 years speaks for itself. The fact buck fans ridicule sweater when he loses just reinforces you are fairweather. Sorry but I am right again. Now go back to your bar stool.

Hey, I just got a job as pooper-scooper for Jim Tressel’s dog! I don’t actually walk the dog; I just follow behind and you know, scoop the poop. Boy, does he have a big dog, if you know what I mean.

I’m trying to get season tickets to see the Bucks next fall. They’re going to win the Big 10, go undefeated, and go to another BCS bowl game. I can’t wait. Go Bucks!

I agree the bucks will win it all. They will be unstopable, TP will throw and pass like Tim Tebow, Tressel will coach as good as Urban Meyer, the drunks on high street will actually see sunlight.
