Dayton-area Buckeyes getting sacked

Our Dayton-area Ohio State Buckeyes have had mixed results this season. Marcus Freeman and Kurt Coleman look strong on defense, but Brandon Saine seems to be losing ground, and Todd Boeckman has gone from Sports Illustrated cover boy to the bench.

Here’s where nine of our guys stand on the OSU depth chart with a third of the 2008 season in the books:

STARTERS

LB Marcus Freeman — Second on team in tackles with 26, trailing only James Laurinaitis. The Wayne grad has one QB sack.

LB Ross Homan — Third in tackles with 19. Coldwater product looks like he’s secured a starting position for the next couple of years.

SS Kurt Coleman — Northmont grad sixth in tackles with 15. Grabbed first two interceptions of his career last week.

RG Ben Person — Xenia grad has been mainstay on offensive line.

SECOND STRING

TE Jake Ballard — Two receptions for 34 yards. Springboro grad getting plenty of snaps.

QB Todd Boeckman — Lost starting job last week. Has completed 44 of 67 passes for 2 TDs (2 INT) and 381 yards. Look for him to see some time during the Big Ten season. Team captains usually don’t sit on the bench.

THIRD STRING

RB Brandon Saine — Former Mr. Football from Piqua has just 16 carries for 54 yards (3.4 average) and one TD. Lost ground to Dan Herron when Beanie Wells went down. Doesn’t look real comfortable running the ball. Still listed as No. 1 kickoff returner.

DT Todd Denlinger — Four tackles in three games for Troy grad, who has been slowed by injuries this season. Jim Tressel moved gifted sophomore Cameron Heyward from end to tackle, which means Denlinger’s playing time will be decreased.

INJURED

LB Austin Spitler — Six tackles. Was Laurinaitis’ backup, but is out with a leg injury. Etienne Sabino steps into Spitler’s role.

Denlinger and Spitler are both injured-that is why they were moved to third string.

Coleman needs to work on the fundamentals of takling he has had a couple of nice picks but that RB from Troy made him and the rest of our defence look bad last week with a couple of long runs and a lot of broken takles. I know they can do better.

They need to get the ball to Brandon Saine a little more often, I mean he hardly ever gets to carry the ball. He can catch the ball out of the backfield, get him in the game and get him involved.

Saine was, and is, grossly over-rated. I was never impressed with him in HS, and he is even worse at avoiding contact now at OSU. He is a very soft RB. Freeman is also playing poorly so far this year. He has been burned twice for TD’s and has missed several tackles. He needs to pick up his play or the NFL will not come calling.

i dont agree the whole osu team is overrated if you ask me i mean if i remember correctly they where predicted to do horrible last year but somehow made it to the national championchip because of a wild year i guess i think pryor is now super overated im sick of him being compared to vince young i truely dont think he will do that good at osu when you have bad recivers and o-line and when chris wells is gone he wont have help in the back field because saine sucks and i doubt they will get a good running back for awhile osu is slowly falling as is the whole big ten its glory days are comming to an end.

Randy… what are you watching? Pryor will be good, and he already is. Big time defenses respect his ability to run which will give him more time to pass.. and OSU will always have a good backfield.. Herron is a true freshman! With a combo of freshman like Pryor and Herron they can only get better! Can you imagine what those two players will accomplish as just juniors?!.. give me a break..”won’t have help in the backfield”.. your an idiot

First off….I agree saine sucks…..second….matt, herron is a redshirt freshman…..and way better than saine….and finally randy….u could be retarted…osu just got a verbal commitment from the 3 rated running back in the country…and the receivers and o-lineman that are freshman right now will be amazing….know ur facts before u hate.

Even though it is unfair, during the last 3 years under Tressel, and with Boeckman at quarterback, OSU’s reputation among fans nationaly has never been lower. Despite a high winning percentage, those 3 hugh losses is what defines the Buckeyes nationaly. I don’t think these 3 losses define a consistent top 10 program, but due to the lower quality of the Big 10, and those 3 losses, people don’t see the Buckeyes on the same level with SEC teams, or USC.

ha if they where as good as you claim why every week do they drop in the rankings how are you gona sit there and say osu is good when they cant beat a good team they suck and if you whant an example i have three lsu, usc, florida all three teams blew them out how can you say your team is good when they cant win when it counts.

Brandon just doesn’t look the same after his knee was scoped. He looks good in space. Maybe he could play that alphabet (z or h) back that Teddy played. I think Ray Small plays that letter now.

Tressel was wise for benching Boeckman. It shows future recruits OSU will play their best players to win which is necessary to earn respect nationally. No disrespect to our captain from St. Henry but Marlon Brown has got to be excited about Pryor telling the world on t.v. and future blue chip recruits watching how great it is to be a buckeye.
