The milk of human kindness

IMG_1613.JPG
in memory of Maisie

A florist in Xenia called me today. They had something they wanted to deliver. I was surprised and curious to know who might have sent us flowers.

This magnificent flower arrangement arrived at our door. I was amazed. I read the card. Then I cried.

Our beloved dog Maisie died the other day. We miss her very much. The flowers were sent by an author that I know. We have never actually met in person. We have only talked on the phone and corresponded via e-mail and the post. I love her books. She loves dogs as much or more than I do. When Maisie died I sent my author friend a note to let her know. She knew how I felt about Maisie.

Then she sent us these flowers. So very kind of her. So generous. And sweet.

I cried.

Vick, I just saw this and wanted to tell you how sorry I am to hear about Maisie. My sympathies go out to you and your wife. I firmly believe that pets are a gift from God. We learn how to care for others when we care for our pets. May she rest in Doggie Heaven.

So sorry for your loss. I have been there too and know it’s hard. I hope you don’t mind sharing the author’s name if you can. I would like to read the work of someone who must be very in tune with the human heart.

Vick, so sorry to hear the news. You might try re-reading “Rescuing Sprite: A Dog Lover’s Story of Joy and Anguish” by Mark Levin. It’s very therapeutic.

Sorry that you lost your beloved pet Vick.We have had to have two cats and a dog put to sleep in the past four years from just plain old age. Our veterinarian always sends us a sympathy card within a week, and it too touches us.The sad fact is that in most cases, people will outlive their pets. Losing a pet is sad and tramatic event.

Vick: You do know that all dogs go to heaven, right? Maisie is there…be lieve me. We lost both our 14 year old English Springer Spaniels (Mother and “runt of litter” daughter we kept) all within one year, a few years ago. I pray for you for your pain to ease. I’m sure our Emily and Annabelle have met Maisie….be rest assured and please calm your soul…that all three miss all of the people they loved. Remember the love they gave us…it does help the pain go away. Take care my literary friend.
