Winter food…

Food. I like good food. Don’t we all? (If you are on a January post-holiday diet you might wish to stop reading right here).

OK, now for the rest of you, you foodies and non-dieters, let’s talk about winter food. I have been thinking about winter food a lot. The snow makes me crave warmth and solid comfort foods.

I like to check out the FOOD 52 blog for recipes. Today they have a post that features some fab winter foods like Creamy Potato Soup with Bacon Vinaigrette and Grilled Pepper Cheese Sandwiches. They tell you what ingredients you will need:

12 oz extra sharp cheddar

6 oz roasted piquillo peppers

3 green onions

1 sprig rosemary

6 russet potatoes, cut into a 1-inch dice

4 pieces thick cut bacon

1 cup lowfat sour cream

And then they tell you how to fix these dishes. Click on the FOOD 52 link embedded above to see the recipes. And while we are on the subject of tasty recipes; this Sunday in this newspaper I’ll have a new French cookbook for you….yummmm.

Heck no Vick, the IRA’s idea of a 7 course meal is a potato and a 6 pack. I’m talking about the folks that have dropped comfort foods from school lunch programs and replaced them with beef jambalaya, vegetable curry, pad Thai, lentil and brown rice cutlets, and quinoa and black-eyed pea salads, you know, the stuff kids really like to eat. LOL

The Food Police?! Are they anything like the Irish Republican Army? :)

Careful Mark, enjoying Midwestern comfort foods could get the Food Police after you.

Sounds complicated. What’s wrong with mixing a can of chili and a box of macaroni and cheese together? Repeat until spring arrives….
