“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”
The book was enjoyable. Have you read it?
The Hollywood film version is just now reaching theaters. The reviews seem mostly positive. I might actually go to this one. What do you think? Are you planning to see the movie?

Highlighted by Rooney Mara’s keen performance, the flick is interesting for sure, though I would not call it “enjoyable.” With rape as the overarching theme, “Men Who Hate Women” is a much more descriptive title than “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.”

I was surprised to hear (after paying, of course) tht ths movie was 3 hrs long. I planned on sleeping through half of it, astonishingly, I ddnt. Ths was a good movie. I was impressed tht I was captivated all 3 hrs long. I slept when I got home, 3hrs later.

No surprise Vick, I’m more of a order it from cable or rent from Redbox than a go the movies type of guy. I’m guessing with our current economy more folks are taking that route.

Irish, it appears the holiday weekend box office receipts were fairly mediocre across the board. Mostly weak results all around…

Mark, Vick, looks like they aren’t too many folks that agree with you guys about the movie. Per the Daily Mail: “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, an adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s novel by the same name, pulled in a weak $4.6m on Friday and is expected to gross just $15.1m Friday-Sunday. That is considerably less than the $26.5 million that Sony Studios had forecast for the highly anticipated, $90m action film.”

Having read the books and watched the Swedish movies, I’m totally psyched to see the Hollywood version. I don’t understand the “the book was better” crowd at all. The book is the book, the Swedish movies are the Swedish movies, and the Hollywood movie is the Hollywood movie. You can’t remix a good thing too many times.

The book has had a big Hollywood roll out too Vick. Reportedly, the title in Swedish translates exactly to Men who hate Women. I think the idea of tattooed sexy hackers must be more appealing than bitter vengeful goth loners. Somehow I just don’t see the men who hate title in the NY Times top ten list…

Dear Reader, the earlier version didn’t have this big Hollywood rollout…

The film has been out for two years. I liked the book better, but I always do. It seems a bit soon for a remake. Yeah, this one’s in English, but really, if you can make it through the book, you won’t be put off by subtitles.
