The Amazon Kindle Owner’s Lending Library…
Amazon.com’s plan for KINDLE WORLD DOMINATION continues to be revealed. They won’t be happy until there are 7 billion KINDLE users worldwide (it seems). They just rolled out the Kindle Owner’s Lending Library. Amazon is the on-line book selling Goliath. The Kindle is their proprietary eBook reader. Prime is their expedited shipping program. When you subscribe to Prime you also get lots of other perceived benefits. Here’s another one:
Today they announced that “With Prime, Kindle owners can now choose from thousands of books to borrow for free including over 100 current and former New York Times Bestsellers - as frequently as a book a month, with no due dates.”

That’s a book a month people! For you slow readers….and while you are waiting for that monthly free download maybe, just maybe, you’ll pay Amazon to download even more books! After all, nobody can read just one….now where did I hide those potato chips? And while I’m searching for snacks cue up Captain and Tennille’s remake of “KINDLE LOVE”…Kindle, Kindle, Kindle LOVE!!

Actually, they’ve had some kind of lending program for a while now. A friend “lent” me a copy of Matt Taibbi’s “Griftopia” shortly after it was published, but the lent book “expired” after two weeks and vanished from my Kindle even though my Kindle has never been online. I suspect they tweaked the arrangement and this program may not be quite the same thing.

Only one book a month? On average, I read about 8 books a month. I can download more free books from the library on my Nook. Plus B&N has thousands of free books you can download from their site.

Oooo! This might be enough to turn my head, although…what about the beauty of getting to know the PEOPLE in the library or the book store. Is this why we can not communicate civilly amongst ourselves?
