“Too Wicked to Wed”

We live in a world of diminishing attention spans. Many Americans seem to be able to focus on one thing for just about long enough to tweet something. Tweet. Tweet.

Publishers know that if they don’t have compelling book titles that they might as well just forget it. I never cease to be amazed by some of the book titles that I see. Some of them even make me want to read the book. Others give me reason to chuckle.

Here are some recent examples:

“Too Wicked to Wed” (Forever) by Cara Elliott. Yep, it is a new romance title. There are wisps of steam rising up from it. Is your heart atwitter yet?

“Do Chocolate Lovers Have Sweeter Babies?” (Free Press) by Jena Pincott. This one is a pregnancy guide of sorts. It purports to answer questions like: ” are bossy, dominant women more likely to have boys?” hmmmm….

The Best of the Rejection Collection - 293 Cartoons That Were Too Dumb, Too Dark, or Too Naughty for the New Yorker” (Workman) rescued by Matthew Diffee.

Ooops! They got me. I’m reading it now. Do you see what I mean?

p.s. My favorite book title from the past year is “You Had Me At Woof” (Riverhead) by Julie Klam. This book is a dog lover’s dream. It just came out in paperback and it should quickly become a New York Times bestseller. Woof!
