Bye Bye Borders Books….

Well, it is over. Borders Books chain is shutting down after 40 years. The booksellers are liquidating the business. 11,000 employees will be put out of work. Here’s more from USA Today:

“The book retailer will wind down its remaining 399 stores starting July 22 after it couldn’t reach an agreement with an earlier bidder, Najafi Cos., about an offer to keep the company running. Borders won’t hold an auction, as there have been no proposals to keep the company operating, it said in a statement Monday.

“We were all working hard towards a different outcome, but the headwinds we have been facing for quite some time, including the rapidly changing book industry, eReader revolution, and turbulent economy, have brought us to where we are now,” said Borders Group President Mike Edwards in a statement.”

Originally, I liked Borders better and B&N, but over the years that changed. Still, losing Borders is not a good thing for book world and book lovers. Maybe this is good news for the indie books stores. I hope so.

I really liked Borders. It’s too bad it’s Borders and not Barnes & Noble - they have truly the worst customer service EVER.

R.I.P. Borders. While you were not my favorite book store, that is a little like saying “not my favorite chocolate cake”.
