Voila! a Michele Bachmann book deal announced…

A few days ago I wrote a blog post about Representive Michele Bachmann’s announcement that she is running for the Republican presidential nomination. At that t1me I wondered if she has written any books. I wasn’t aware of any. Well, she is apparently going to publish a memoir. According to the New York Times:

“Representative Michele Bachmann of Minnesota has made a deal to publish her memoir, selling a book to Sentinel, a conservative imprint at Penguin Group USA, two people familiar with the negotiations said on Thursday.

Ms. Bachmann, a Tea Party favorite who announced her presidential candidacy during the Republican debate on Monday, has been shopping her memoir for weeks, meeting with several New York publishers to discuss a possible deal.

The book is tentatively expected to be released this fall. John Fund, a columnist for the Wall Street Journal, will assist with the writing of the book.

One person who saw Ms. Bachmann’s proposal said the book was largely biographical, an account of the formation of her political and economic ideas. Ms. Bachmann was “very impressive” in her meetings with publishers, winning over the skeptics in the room, the person said.

Publishers submitted pitches to Ms. Bachmann that included publicity and marketing plans. House members are allowed to receive royalties from book sales but not advances.”

Glenn Beck, Ann Coulter, things are heating up…

I just got my copy of Ann Coulter’s latest book “Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America” in the audiobook version. I got the audiobook version because she reads it and I didn’t want to miss anything. I want to hear every sneer in her voice.

And I just picked up Glenn Beck’s new paperback, “The Original Argument: The Federalists’ Case for the Constitution, Adapted for the 21st Century” and I’m wondering about how it has been “adapted” for our times, what does that mean? I guess I’ll find out. And I’m wondering how his new internet venture will turn out. As you probably know, Beck’s complicated tenure at FoxNews is ending and he’s embarking on a new venture where you will have to pay a regular subscription fee to see and hear him. Have you signed up? Do you plan to subscribe to Beck’s new pay-per-view enterprise?

So I have a doubleheader scheduled for this weekend; Beck and Coulter. It could be a long weekend….

“The Tiger’s Wife” wins major award for fiction

well deserved

My favorite novel so far this year is “The Tiger’s Wife” by Tea Obreht. The author wrote the book when she was only 25. Now 27, this is her first novel.

I interviewed her for WYSO Public Radio right before the book came out. It had already gotten some good reviews but the author was charming and I daresay, almost innocent in her wonderment at all the recognition the book was starting to receive. And the praise is piling up.“The Tiger’s Wife”just won the prestigious Orange Prize for Fiction.

You can hear my interview with Obreht tomorrow (Friday) on WYSO (91.3fm) at 1:30 and streaming at www.wyso.org….Or you can hear an archived interview by clicking HERE:
