Don’t miss this interview…

a classic novel

Recently, I had the opportunity to interview Chang-rae Lee about his novel “The Surrendered”(Riverhead Books). This powerful work follows 3 main characters, a Korean war orphan, a missionary, and a GI. Lee tells his story over 3 time periods, too. One part of the book is set in Manchuria in the 1930’s. Another part takes place in Korea during the 1950’s. Then there’s a portion set in the present time in New Jersey and Italy.

In the interview Lee talked about his creative process and he how he became a writer. The interview will air this Sunday morning at 11 on WYSO Public Radio (91.3fm).

Lee visits Books&Co. in Beavercreek for a book signing on March 11 at 7pm.

Oops…, last time I fashion a guess of war orphans being adopted, happy marriages in foreign war torn countries, and all other visions of sugar plums. Your brief hint does make it sound like it will be an interesting read, and I definitely will try it. Thanks

SR~hmm, “feel good?” Probably not. (Spoiler alert-don’t read any further if you want to read this wonderful book): one character is dying from terminal cancer. Another dies in a tragic fire. As for the the third one; everything and everybody he touches gets destroyed. If that kind of tragedy makes you feel good then perhaps it is. It is very well told but there’s a lot of pain within these pages…

I have no idea what the story line/lines might be, but just the title, charaters, and location settings suggests maybe a “feel good” type of book? Can you give us a hint?
