Ronald Reagan and Alzheimer’s
February 6 will be former President Ronald Reagan’s 100th birthday. In honor of that fact a number of books are coming out including Reagan’s autobiography.
One of the more interesting books, “MY FATHER AT 100”, was written by Ronald Reagan’s son, Ron Reagan. The book is currently embargoed so I cannot provide quotes from it but I have read it in preparation for my interview next week with the author.
In his book Ron Reagan suggests that his dad might have started showing signs of the onset of Alzheimer’s disease as early as 1984. You might recall that during a presidential debate that year Mr. Reagan showed some indications of being confused. We’ll never know. Alzheimer’s is an insidious thing.
This memoir describes some poignant moments when President Reagan was nearing the end of his life. It is definitely worth reading.
