Somewhere in Yankee Heaven…

IMG_0822.JPG
an epic collapse for the books

Billy Martin and George Steinbrenner are drinking beer. Bitter beer. Sour beer. Lite Beer-tastes great! Less filling…yada…yada…yada…

The mood in the Yankee Heaven beer bistro is rather dark. Steinbrenner, the late Yankee owner, and Martin, the late Yankee manager who was hired and fired 5 different times by Steinbrenner are up there rehashing the Yankees’ humiliating exit from the American League Championship series last night at the hands of the Texas Rangers who are now advancing to their first World Series ever.

A fly is slowly buzzing around the ceiling and listening in. This is what it hears:

Billy: If that was me that did that I would have been fired before the team got on the bus last night, George. You know I would have been. And I would have deserved it.

George: (growling) That Girardi (Yankee manager, Joe Girardi) made all the wrong moves throughout the entire series. Every pitching move he made blew up in our faces. Grrrrr!

Billy: I hope your sons have the good sense to tell Girardi where to go….

George: I have been texting my boys all morning about it. They are ignoring me….Grrrr!

Billy: Of course you have to admit that when Texas picked up Cliff Lee (a pitcher who has owned the Yankees in the postseason) from Seattle that our fate was sealed. George, maybe the Yankees should have paid more to get him? Maybe?

George: (a scream of agony) Yowl! I died in July! I wasn’t around to make that deal! What really galls me is that I blew 200 million of my money on this team. They failed while the Rangers went into bankruptcy court this summer and still they stole Lee and our chances to repeat as World Series champions! Grrrr!

Billy: Well, at least it appears that the Republicans will take back Congress….

George: GRRRRRRR!

Vick, I just wanted to remind you that I picked the Giants to win it all. Now the real fun starts.

A $200 million+ team, a new expensive ball park, and a severe butt-whupping! What a year to be wearing pinstripes! Cheer up, Yankee fans. It will get worse: Next year their $300 million team will also fail!

The Yankees loss proves you can’t buy a championship. I’m glad to see them lose and I hope this is the beginning of the end of the Yankee empire.

The Yankees lose the pennant! The Yankees lose the pennant!

It’s rather sad how Red Sox fans end their seasons by either gloating over Yankee misfires, or in their cups after yet another Yankee World Series. This year is for gloating. Not only did the Yankees not win the pennant, but the Red Sox have a three-week lead on their winter tans.
