The best novel of 2010 (so far)
“T is a rare thing for me to agree with Michiko Kakutani, the lead book reviewer for the New York Times. If Michiko liked a book I’ll usually hate it. And vice versa. When she pans a book I ‘ll seek that book out and I often find that I like it.
Today we actually agreed. I love this book that she reviewed today. I think it is the finest novel of the year (so far). It provides a frightening (and hilarious) glimpse of our very near future.

Vick, I saw that the “Rachael Ray Show” had a dog (‘a poodle with a noodle’) on that could read yesterday. My favorite book might become whichever one he finishes first…LOL

I recently read ‘Deb as well, and thought it was great. The perfect blend of cynicism and hope. I love books that can synthesis the modern world, shake it around, turn it inside-out, and pull out all the absurdities and then make that into an interesting story. Another book with that quality is Fraction of the Whole by Toltz. Anyway, I’ll put Shteyngart’s new book on my to read list (which means I’ll read it sometime in the next 3 years. Arg!).

What? You are in perpetual disagreement with ‘Yoko Michiko’ at the Times?….LOL…Well,Vick, good for you! First of all I read ‘Deb’ and immediately was sucked in. The military trained me in ‘Stoli Russian’ so I have an affinity for writers of Russian heritage and their delightful struggle to convey stories despite the endless and often overwhelming expressive choices English presents. I do think it is too easy to find Shteyngart through the familiar Chekhov and I almost made that same connection with ‘Deb.’ I’ll pick up ‘Super Sad’ as soon as I finish this Eco monstrosity…..I firmly believe fiction should punish as well as entertain….lol…’Good job Vick, again.
