As many as 700,000 iPads were sold over the weekend…
Apple might have another hit on their hands with the new iPad tablet computer they finally put on sale yesterday. According to Bloomberg Business Week:
” Apple Inc. probably sold more than twice as many iPads in its debut weekend than some analysts estimated, an early sign that Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs may succeed at reviving demand for tablet-style computers.
The iPad’s initial sales may have reached 700,000 units, Piper Jaffray & Co.’s Gene Munster said in an interview yesterday. The Minneapolis-based analyst had predicted sales of 200,000 to 300,000, while Sanford C. Bernstein & Co.’s Toni Sacconaghi had projected 300,000 to 400,000.”
That’s a pile of iPads. Apple knows how to do a product rollout right. Amazon.com must surely be trembling to witness this rapid assault on their Kindle eBook reader’s dominance of the market by Apple’s latest device. Wow!
Do you know anybody who bought an iPad this weekend?

Steve, thanks for the recommendation. As soon as the dust settles and it’s clear that the iPad works as advertised, I’m going to really enjoy kicking back in my easy chair with one.

This product is a huge threat to the ebook readers. I’m not sure why you would by one of those when you can get an iPad for a little more and it does so much more. That said, I’m taking a wait and see approach, based on my iPhone experience which just keeps getting worse the longer I own the phone. It’s become practically unusable and I’m not sure if that’s Apple’s fault or ATT’s, but I really don’t care.

Pre-ordered. Got it. Love it! More than just the media consumption device I had originally intended. With Pages and Sketchbook Pro, it makes me actually productive on it also.
