Vote for the best book covers of the year…
Amazon.com is conducting a poll on the best book covers of the year in a number of categories. Each category has six finalists and you can choose your favorites from each section. I just voted for my favorites. You can only vote once.
Amazon will ask you to identify yourself to prevent ballot box stuffing. I enjoyed it. Some of my favorite books from 2009 are among the finalists.

The “artwork” ‘made me do it’ doesn’t explain the Beatles “White Album” Oh, but you’re probably too young to remember that. LOL

Edo, I agree, you cannot judge a book by the cover. But we are only asking you to judge the covers in this instance so that really doesn’t matter. Quite often the covers for books are designed with minimal input from the authors anyway so the book content really doesn’t matter much when choosing your favorite covers. The book could be awful but what a great cover! I have fond memories of the days when record albums gave artists the opportunity to illustrate a wonderful canvas, 12 inches by 12 inches of cardboard. We lost something artistically when the canvas was shrunken to the size of a CD cover. Just as we are losing something now when book covers are turned into images on an Amazon Kindle or some other electronic book reader. I used to buy albums from musicians I had never even heard of because I liked the artwork on the album cover so much. Sometimes the music was terrible. Then there were the albums that were as amazing as the cover art.I took a chance and discovered something fantastic. The artwork made me do it. The same goes for books. Album covers and book covers are a combination of art and marketing. I appreciate the effort that goes into them…

Vick, you can’t judge a book cover by the book cover… what about the flaps?… my god, the flaps!… and the back cover, fer cryin’ out loud… not to mention the testimonials that tell you what a wonderful jacket this book is wearing…after all the thin veneer of the “dust jacket” is the sizzle that sells the.. what was the product again?… remember, one good turn gets most of the covers…
