McKenzie Phillips slept with her own father? Yuck!

gag!

Just got back from lunch and saw the headlines: the actress McKenzie Phillips has confessed that she slept with her dad on the night before her wedding. Daddy was the former pop star John Phillips (The Mamas and the Papas). So much for my lunch….(cringe).

Phillips tells all in her new memoir, “High on Arrival”. Is that the kind of stuff that you want to read about?

http://tinyurl.com/mf87lm The more you read about Mackenzie’s dad, the more plausible this is. And it would certainly be consistent with her need for substance abuse. But yeah, more than I needed to know, that’s for sure.

I too question why anyone would want to go public with something like that. I understand her need to deal with it… but publicly? While there’s probably not any chance that it can be proven, I tend to believe that it is true. Michelle Phillips was no longer married to John when the affair began so I’m not sure why she would know about it and frankly, it sounds like she probably has good reason to defend he ex-husband considering that Michelle is probably just as guilty as a parent exposing their kids to a lifestyle that was less than supportive of children and family. I read the transcript from her interview on the Today show and I was surprised at how insistent she seemed to be on also defending her dad and their actions. She came across to me in the interview as being incredibly honest and more level-headed than most people I know. Further, I read that Chynna, Bijou and Tamerlane Phillips are supportive of Mackenzie. Chynna said that Mackenzie told her in 1997 (she’s been making this lie up for at least 12 years?) Chynna said “Was he actually raping her? I don’t know. Do I believe that they had an incestuous relationship and that it went on for 10 years? Yes.” And while I do not understand why someone would want to be so public about this, I can sympathize that it must be hard to criticize someone that is beloved by so many fans. It’s hard enough to accuse someone that no one cares about. If O.J.’s daughter wrote a book accusing her dad of the same thing, would we be so quick to judge or criticize her?

According to NBC: “Her stepmother, Michelle Phillips, has said that Phillips is imagining what happened.”

After the author’s Oprah appearance yesterday the book has started selling. There’s a market for this sort of stuff. The book is up to #5 on Amazon.com.

Thank you, Spuggy. That was my reaction, as well. This would appear to be a sad attempt to cash in on her own tragedy. I don’t want to hear about it and it doesn’t seem to have any redemptive value. Thus, my disgust.

As a victim I am finding it hard to have much empathy for several reasons, too numerous to mention here. Somehow the book smacks of voyeuristic reading rather than learning about abuse and overcoming it. A very sad childhood, a sad person, a sick situation.

Gee Vick, sorry about your lunch. Such tragedy should not befall one such as yourself. I mean, anybody who might be a victim of incest should keep the report clear of you so you may digest your meal in peace.

Perhaps, it was just all a big mixup and John thought he was having sex with Valeria Bertinelli. I mean that could happen, right?

I would not believe this druggie. Anything to promote her book.

Uuuuhh - No. No, but thanks for sharing. I can only assume that’s rock solid granite, bottom of the pit, plumbing the depths of the self-revelation cellar for Ms. Phillips? Or does she later confess to driving a bus load of blind nuns and refugee orphans off a cliff?
