National Enquirer keeps gnawing on John Edwards…
The breathless headline on Politics Daily proclaims:
“John Edwards Moves Rielle Hunter Nearby, and Elizabeth Packs Her Bags, National Enquirer Reports”
The National Enquirer has been bustin’ his chops since day one. And this guy could have been our president. Heaven help us.

(Note-John Edwards has written several books. Elizabeth Edwards is also an author. Now if we could just get Rielle Hunter to write one…)

The National Enquirer has been breaking news of political scandal for quite some time, as former Democratic Senator and presidential candidate Gary Hart can attest. The Globe also reports political scandal. It’s part of these two tabloids’ beat of hounding celebrities. Not to be confused with the Weekly World News, where you might read about 9-foot ants.By Mark from St Paul

It’s funny how the National Media (DDN included) still hasn’t touched the Enquirer’s scoop on Sarah’s affair with one of Todd’s business partners. 100 reporters went to Alaska? That couldn’t have been because none of the lower 48’s newspapers had ever covered her before and they had zilch in their files, now could it? Picking an “unknown” from anywhere would have had the same result. John Edwards’ infidelities were not common knowledge at all, and I would love to see some sources for that crazy allegation. Dude was too pretty fershure, but there was nothing in the rumor mill or I would have never gone near the guy and I DID check and I DO know how to do that. I’m disappointed but this doesn’t speak very loudly to someone’s qualifications for high office, not unless you’d like to retroactively strip Clinton, Bush 1, LBJ, JFK, Eisenhower, FDR, etc of their presidencies for their well documented extracurricular activities. Oh, and Reagan was d-i-v-o-r-c-e-d, as was McCain and Bob Dole so I hope none of Edwards’ critics here voted for any of those skirt chasers.By irishguy

Irish, the Enquirer has to be one of the better paying gigs in the newspaper biz. Their circulation remains steady while other newspapers are battling for readers. Why would somebody quit a plum job with the Enquirer??By irishguy

Blowfly,I’m guessing they must have some reporters using the Enquirer as a stepping stone to a “respectable” publication. Or perhaps they just stumble across the real stories while investigating the Giant Ants and MJ’s missing nose. Semper Fi, VickBy Blowfly

The Enquirer actually did some serious reporting involving the OJ Simpson case and the anthrax attacks in 2001, not that that makes up for the story about the 9 foot jungle ants eating tour guides (read that story while in the checkout line - fascinating). Edwards is right up their alley.By vick

Alice, as you know, we try to maintain a civil level of discourse here. Even so, there are occasions where comments can get a wee bit testy. Oh well. My dad used to say, “son, try to keep a civil tongue and if that isn’t working, be a good listener.” My dad was a US Marine and proud of it.By Alice

I’ve commented, and countered Vick’s numerous bloviations with facts, truth, data to support it, a place to go (left wing & right wing) to verify the truth…but good ol’ laid back non truth telling (IE: Liar) Vick always makes sure this is never posted. Vick…you’re reading this…who you gonna run to when they ban you? Do you have relatives that have warned you of coming totalitarianism? Of course not!!! I did. They told me of people like you that “denied everything”. Being a pawn pays the bills, Vick. How much is it going to cost for you to finally get a clue? Asd they said in Germany: VE only followed orders!!!!By Rash Lamebrow

Yes indeedy, Ice; the mainstream media are just a bunch of unethical shills for the DNC. Thank the Lord we have the fair and balanced reporting of Fox News. We can also be grateful that in America we have great journalists out there on the airwaves who put events in proper perspective and ensure their audiences know how stupid and evil are people who just can’t see the wisdom of their observations. Sean Hannity is a great American, Rush Limbaugh is truly a man of the people, Ann Coulter is Godlike, Bill O’Reilly is gracious, and Glen Beck is the most incisive political commentator since Jesse Helms on the Tobacco Radio Network 45 years ago. We’re so fortunate in this great country to have such honest, ethical, unbiased, humble, self-effacing, idealistic, and brilliant observers of the American political scene. They’re so credible that we independent thinkers don’t even require them to identify sources for their reports. And the way they mix up their assertions of fact with their illuminating commentary to give us “news you can’t get anywhere else”… well that just goes to show ya the mainstream media have no professional standards. You can bet that Fox News, Sean, Rush et. al. never used any talking points from Karl Rove or the RNC. And when they shout somebody down, or turn off the mike on a caller, or kick a guest off the set, or drop the bomb sound effect on a person who just needs to shut up … well ya know if more Republicans acted that way, and the mainstream media were that tough, then those Obamacrats and their bleedin’ heart, socialist constituencies wouldn’t be wantin’ to waste our tax dollars on tryin’ to get everybody — even those undeserving low-lifes who are poor because they’re morally deficient — some kinda health care. And ya know what else that’s just unbelievable, as Sean often says, the mainstream media won’t even report that Obama isn’t a natural- born citizen of the U. S. of A. What a bunch of flaks!By irishguy

Vick, I seem to recall the Enquirer broke the story of Jesse Jackson’s “love child” as well. Seems as if they cover the scandals the media wing of the democrat party won’t. I’m fairly certain that there were well over 100 “journalists” rushing to Alaska looking for dirt on Mrs Palin while they and their editors ignored Mr Edwards scandal.By vick

Whoa, Ice Bandit and Jon, why are you presuming that I am slamming the National Enquirer?! Far from it. When I said they were “gnawing” on John Edwards, I meant that in the nicest way. At the moment my dogs are gnawing on some prime lamb shanks, the happy sound they are making on those grinding lamb bones is really rather delightful. I feel the same way about the Enquirer gnawing on John. I’m curious though Ice Bandit about your assertion that the DDN was up in Wasilla picking through Miss Sarah’s waste? Where are you getting that from? Never happened as far as I know? A curious claim? Actually, the National Enquirer led the way to Wasilla. Did you forget their allegations about Sarah’s relatives? Something about OxyContin, Rush Limbaugh’s fave relaxant? I think the Enquirer is doing a swell job! Really swell!By jon

Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. And quit mocking the Enquirer Vick, for they take on Democratic hypocrites while the mainstream media like the Dayton Daily News were ignoring Edwards and going up to Wasilla, Alaska to pick thru Sarah Palin’s trash. The narrative during the primaries was the stoic Edwards, standing by his lady love thru sickness and in health. Fact is, Edwards’ infidelities were the worst kept secret in Washington, the mainstream media just chose to ignore it in their new role and spokesmen for the DNC.
