Sayonara, Sarah Palin…
She’s gone. Sarah Palin kept her promise. She resigned. Today was her final day as governor of Alaska.
According to the BBC:
“Although Mrs Palin’s next steps remain unclear, reports say she is working on an autobiography and could host a television chat show. But a spokeswoman for the Palin family earlier dismissed the claims.”
OK, so she’s writing a book. I’m not sure why her family was dismissing that particular claim. It’s a done deal.
What else will she be doing? Do you have any predictions that you would like to make about Sarah? Where will she go? What will she do? Where will she end up?

DS, I just ran across a link to a study by the Culture and Media Institute looking at how ABC, CBS and NBC reported about Mrs Palin from late Sept to mid Oct. There were 18 negative stories for each positive one. Cbs being the only network to run a positive story. Looks like the Media had an agenda to me.By irishguy

Peggy Noonun’s July 11 Wall Street Journal opinion column is must reading on this topic. “What the mainstream media wants is not to kill her but keep her story going forever. She hurts, as they say, the Republican brand with her mess and political jabberwocky…”By downsized

Irish, I too am shocked at the personal attacks on Sarah Palin and even her family. You’d never see media criticism of the Clinton or Kennedy families to this extent. Even the Carter family received a free pass. There goes that “gotcha media” yet again.By alaskanriley

it’s sad when you have to hide behind your own son’s battle fatigues rather than take the medicine due ya, quitter. Her farewell speech is masterful misdirection. This link is an entertaining comment on the state of her influence on us. On another note, I see that a representative of the party of no is calling Joe the plumber stupid…. maybe your readers don’t appreciate that Vick? http://www.themudflats.net/wp-content/uploads/highercalling.jpgBy irishguy

Vick, a Dick Nixon fan, what a shocker! I’m shocked that most of the criticisms of Palin seem so personal and that her family seems to be fair game as well, unlike most any other politician. It almost seems as if folks are trying to destroy her.By vick

Irish, you are probably too young to remember when my hero, Dick Nixon, ran for governor of California back in 1962. He lost. After his two terms as VP under Dwight Eisenhower (1952-1960), Nixon lost that race for the presidency to JFK in 1960. This second consecutive defeat in 1962 embittered Nixon. He had a press conference in which he uttered the infamous line: “you won’t have Dick Nixon to kick around anymore.” He claimed that he was done with politics in 1962. Sure-we know how that turned out. I wish I could begin to miss Sarah Palin. No such luck there, either.By irishguy

Wow, not a lot of Sarah fans on this blog! I think you may all be “misunderestimating” her. I’m not saying she’s presidential material, but I didn’t think a partial term senator with no executive experience was either……By lmj

Vick, are you going to miss her? I liked the bit in her speech about the new Governor having a nice family and the press should “leave them alone”. It’ll be interesting to see what her future holds.By oh me

Yes, indeed, Sayonara Sarah. Do the country a favor and stay out of politics. Just tend to the salmon fishing and the “Russia watching” I can’t believe a percentage of the nation thought this airhead had anything to offer. Listen to her talk people. She speaks jibberish with random non-related sentences strung together. Mercy! What is the attraction?By No book

Wow Vick! We really have a life don’t we? A beautiful Sunday night. You’re posting about, of all things, Sarah Palin. And I’m taking the time to respond. We really have to get a hobby or something. As far as the book thing goes, it’s anybody’s guess. There is a small minority, maybe 20% of the adult population, who have at least a passing interest in Palin. And if even 10% of those are foolish enough to pony up the $25-30 her book would inevitably cost, she would quickly become a “best selling author”. Another bullet point for her resume, I would imagine. And in her case, that accomplishment and $2.00 would get her a small regular coffee at Starbucks. The fact that her name will sell a book certainly gives no credence to her actual abilities, other than to attest to the fact the she is competent enough(or at least her handlers are) to time her book for maximum financial return. Certainly no rocket science there. After the glam and glitter of the book tour fades, there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever as to where she will inevitably land………..Fox News. It is the only place where she can bloviate, unconstrained from any responsibility to be factually correct. It is the only place where a shallow right wing politician such as Palin can opine with absolutely no expectation or requirement that they be logical in their arguments or be required to discuss issues in anything even remotely resembling an adversarial environment. If she is expecting to do anything which has any semblance of a political or policy slant, Fox is the only place she can possibly even begin to consider as a platform. I even think I feel safe enough in my prediction to give you odds on this one, Vick. I mean, after all, where else could she even possibly go? Of course, if she decides to skip the political scene, she could always resuscitate her sportscasting career and end up on ESPN2 doing the Iditarod or something. At least she would be in her element. Certainly she would be much less prone to look and sound like an idiot if she were back in an environment to which she was more well suited. I hope, though, that she doesn’t give up the politics. There’s a lot more comedy gold to be mined from Sarah.
