A Luddite’s delight….
The light went out on my modem last night. It was a calm evening, No rain, No lightning. Little wind. The trees were barely rustling. Then the electricity went out on our road. It was only gone for about ten minutes. Long enough to annoy my Siemens high speed internet modem. It died.
I spent an hour on hold today trying to order a replacement. I’m hopeful that it will arrive soon. In the meantime I’m writing this post at my local library. My dial up modem at home is so primitive I cannot write blog posts, check scores, spend money, etc.
Oh well, I guess I’ll go read a book….

The computer and internet always takes a back seat for me when we get to this time of year. There is just too much to enjoy outside the four walls of the house. Scratching around in the flower beds and garden, leisurely walks, bike riding. People don’t know how to relax anymore. We have become a nation of people who require constant visual stimulation and entertainment. The need to constantly be “in touch” and electronically linked has become a national obsession. Yet, with all this “stimulation” we continue to grow dumber and more misinformed every year. There will be a huge price to pay down the road for our dependency on this electronic drug to which we’ve all become addicted. Enjoy your down time, Vick. It is a rare opportunity for you to recharge your mental and spiritual batteries.By downsized

If it were possible that no one would be harmed, I’d love a “Day the Earth Stood Still” experience. The high technology, internet, always need to be texting/e-mailing/cell phoning world, is WAY over rated. How did we ever live without all this junk? More civily and happily, I think. EMT’s and radiation are silent killers. Putting GPS chips in all of us is the next step toward total control.By lmj

Luddite, Vick, I don’t know what you have to go through to get your blog on line, but would cutting and pasting from a word processing document help? Put all your information needed to upload on a word document, then bounce between the word processing and the internet, just copying and pasting your way to completion. Did you have your modem on a surge protector? Just trying to be helpful. But, if you’re not on your computer, that allows more time for reading.
