the perfect vacation book…

William T. Vollmann is one of my favorite writers. His books are events - he can write some very long ones…

I just got an advance copy of his latest effort. IMPERIAL (Viking) is Vollmann’s non-fiction portrait and history of Imperial County in California and that area along the Mexican border.

This is the perfect vacation book in my mind. You might disagree however. It is a paperback but it must weigh ten pounds.

IMPERIAL is 1,344 pages long. Wow!

I’m in heaven…I can’t wait to crack it open.
