I fell off the grid (again)

I vanished. Or, at least I stopped blogging. Here’s why:

That windstorm on Wednesday knocked down the utility pole in front of my place. No electric. No water. No lights. No computer. No refrigerator. No stove. No blogging…..

I’m writing this post at the library. DP&L is putting up a new pole today.

Thank heaven I have lots of good books and a flashlight….

Keeping the wine chilled and the cheese cool was actually not a problem….the garage made a lovely cellar for such items…

Ahhh … Good old DP&L … Get ready for another rate increase Vic. They’ll think of some way to disguise it, I’m sure. Definetly time to invest in a generator, if only to keep the wine chilled, and the cheese cool.

Vick: Three years ago and change, Hurricane Wilma. House gone, no power, no internet, no cold beer, nothing. Lived in our drowned truck until FEMA (Bless them altho they take a bad rap) delivered a trailer. Four people, two dogs. Looking back it was comical in that we all survived and didn’t resort to murder. Sadly, my library of 1500 plus books didn’t survive. Ever try reading a water-logged Kerouac by candlelight? Doesn’t work out so well. Take a previous poster’s advice and buy a generator. That Ohio weather seems to be getting really weird. Best.

Irish Guy…books are SO 19th century…LMJ….generators are under discussion….Downsized….you are such a city boy…I drink well water. There is an electric pump in the well. No rural electric means no bathing, etc.

Might it be time to invest in a small generator, Vick?

Freaky. We were knocked out two consecutive days by a transformer. Seventh time in 10 days we had lost power. Get this, we received a call and letter of apology from our power company. I guess threats to call everyone from our councilperson to the Governor, when their monopoly is up for re-deignation, really does work. Umm, you said you lost your water from the wind storm? Does that mean the turbines from your pumping station don’t have back up generators? Even after our 500 year flood swept over our waterworks the taps still flowed. You couldn’t drink the filthy stuff but, NO water? Never heard of a storm doing that. Weird.
