Shakespeare ROCKS!

(the “Chandos” portrait of William Shakespeare/attributed to John Taylor-circa 1610)
The holidays are drawing nigh and potential gift book candidates lie as thick as presidential hopefuls upon Iowa’s autumnal fields at this time of year.
They are Big books. Coffee table-sized tomes. Collections. Retrospectives. Reissues. Conglomerations.
A most impressive illustrated book landed on my desk today. SHAKESPEARE-The Life, The Works, The Treasures (Simon and Schuster) by Catherine M. S. Alexander and the Royal Shakespeare Company is a Shakespeare lovers’ dream come true.
This collection features 30 rare facsimile documents related to The Bard of Stratford. These items are removable. You can hold them in your hands.
There is also a CD with 53 minutes worth of excerpts from Shakespeare’s plays as performed by the RSC. These excerpts were taken from THE COMPLETE ARKANGEL SHAKESPEARE.
Alexander is one of the leading experts on Shakespeare. She was formerly Chief Executive of the International Shakespeare Association. She lives in Will Shakespeare’s hometown of Stratford-upon-Avon.
Do you know any Shakespeare buffs? What a lovely gift this book will make. It will be published on November 1.
What’s your favorite Shakespeare play?
