Eric Clapton—the autobiography

Lots of big books came out today. One of the biggest is CLAPTON—the Autobiography (Broadway Books) by Eric Clapton. It represents the ideal marriage between books and music. The marketing machine for this book (and CD) is highly synchronized.

Here’s an example of what I mean: click here.

Did you click on the link? What did you think? Here is an early review in the New York Times.

On-line technology has enhanced our ability to appreciate a diversity of entertainments.

Clapton finally gives his version of how he stole George Harrison’s wife, Pattie Boyd, and still preserved his friendship with the former Beatle. Boyd, who also has a new book, gives a rather different version. She claims they had a guitar duel for her? Clapton denies it.

I have a buddy who is such a Claptonite that he went all the way to England to see a reunion concert by CREAM.

Are you interested in what Eric Clapton has to say in his autobiography?

One word: Wow. True story: At a recording studio in Franklin a few years ago, I plugged my Strat into a marshall amp and noodled on an A-minor riff. I’m no great shakes as a guitar player, but someone sitting in the studio looked up at me and — I swear to the guitar gods this is true — said one word: “Clapton.” I love the guy. He’s played the blues, lived the blues, and he’s one of the biggest reasons I ever picked up a six-string and made noise. God bless him now and forever. Tom
