Bloggin’ Book Expo America

Hello again from BEA in NYC. This place is crawling with authors. In the space of 5 minutes I’ve had conversations with Robert Crais, Luanne Rice, and Jonathan Safran Foer.

It’s only early afternoon and half of the conventioneers are already clutching beers and glasses of wine. Hair of the dog, I suppose.

It is HOT in the city! Steaming hot! I grabbed a quick Cubano sandwich for lunch in Hell’s Kitchen Park. Speaking of meals—-Steven Colbert was the host of the author breakfast this morning.

Lots of exciting books coming out this fall. Check out my column this Sunday in the Dayton Daily News for a review of a book that is my fave novel of the year (so far).

Tomorrow, I head back to Ohio (I hope). I’ll explain in my next post exactly why I would rather be here than in Philadelphia. I swiped that line from the tombstone of W.C. Fields. I finally understand what he meant by it….

Steven Colbert’s book comes out in October. I did get my hands on a promotional piece that has his introduction and 5 selected chapters excerpted from the full book. It is hilarious!

Stephen Colbert is an amazing talent. His performance at the White House Correspondents’ dinner in April 2006 was one of the most courageous acts I’ve ever seen. And the video with Helen Thomas was hilarious. Did you get a copy of his book?
