When to Look for butterflies

When is the best time to see butterflies? What type of butterfly are you looking for? Any sunny warm day could be a good day to look for butterflies but if you are looking for a certain type of butterfly then you need to know its life cycle to know when to look. If you love monarchs the best time to see lots of monarch is in August and September. That is when the monarch population is reaching its peak. Swallowtails will be seen in the largest amounts later this month and into August. But there are some butterflies that can only be seen in the late spring or early summer. Each species of butterflies has its time to shine. As we have the over laps in the varies butterfly species there will be more to see. Go out looking for butterflies on a warm sunny afternoon when the wind is less than five-ten miles per hour. This true not only for the parries and gardens but also for the Butterfly House at Cox Arboretum MetroPark. Happy hunting.
