Tiger Swallowtail
This spring is off to a good start for the butterfly populations. Many butterflies can be found in the area. The latest to be spotted is the Tiger Swallowtail. This is an easy butterfly to identify. The adult is 3.5 to 5.5” in size. The male is a bright yellow with black edges; the yellow female has a large area of blue on the hingwing. There is also a dark form of the female. The tiger swallowtail will use wild cherry, black cherry, ash and tulip tree as their host plant. Look for these swallowtails in suburban gardens, along roadsides, old fields, woodland margins and roadsides.
