Gossamer Wings

Gray Hairstreak is a member of the gossamer family. This small little butterfly is one of the first of spring. This butterfly can be found in a suburban garden to a rural meadow. It has multiple generations through out the spring and summer. The hind wings have small hair-like antennae. These tails are thought to provide protection to the hairstreak. They keep would be predators from the soft body parts of the butterfly. Photos by Brian Kenney
