Buckeye Just a Visitor
Common Buckeye, this is a seasonal visitor to Ohio. It will migrate to warmer places in the U.S. to spend the winter. It is unique in its color and patterns and is rarely confused with any other type of butterfly. The large eye spots help deflect attackers way from the butterfly. The Buckeye can be found in fields, roadsides, pastures or gardens. The caterpillars will eat toadflax, false foxglove and plantain. Look for this butterfly from the middle of May to the end of November.
