‘Catching’ up with A.J. Green

Home > Blogs > Big C's NFL Blitz > Archives > 2011 > November > 17 > Entry

When I approached A.J. Green’s representatives, CAA Sports, about doing a weekly chat with the Bengals’ standout rookie receiver, they were skeptical. I was told Green’s dedication to football might get in the way.

Surprisingly, Green said, “Tell him I’ll call him after work on Monday.”
That’s right. He refers to practice as WORK, which I found interesting and a testament to his professionalism and work ethic.
First, an injury update. Green hyperextended his right knee after an acrobatic touchdown grab Sunday in the loss to Pittsburgh. He said the knee remains a little stiff but thinks he’ll be ready to go Sunday against Baltimore.
Big C: What is your favorite restaurant?
A.J.: I love Outback! (laugh)
Big C: What do you usually order?
A.J.: I usually get the porterhouse steak, two lobster tails and a salad.
Big C: Being from the South, where do you get your soul food fix up north?
A.J.: My parents are up here a lot since moving me in this summer, so I don’t have to go very far (laugh). They do a lot of cooking. It’s definitely a blessing to have them here.
Big C: What is your favorite TV show?
A.J.: Oh, I like to watch Storage Wars. I bet you can find a lot of good deals there. (laugh)
Big C: Bargain shopper?
A.J.: Wise shopper! (laugh)
Big C: This is for the ladies. Are you single?
A.J.: No, no, no! I’ve been with my girlfriend for 3 1/2 years.
Big C: What is the most unique thing you can tell me about teammate Geno Atkins?
A.J.: The guy is incredibly powerful. When I came to the University of Georgia everybody talked about how strong he was. I remember how he would be on the sideline saying I’m going to make a play. Sure enough, Geno would go out there and get a sack.
Thanks A.J.!

That’s awesome he still has much respect for his parents and doesn’t have the big head! I look forward to learning more about the Bengals best pick since Anthony Munoz.

Ditto that Alfred! I could tell Green was a humble kid during training camp. I watched him sign tons of autographa with a smile on his face. They had to pry him away from the crowd. However, the Bengals lose if Green is not in the lineup Sunday. Who Dey!

What a refreshing attitude coming from someone in the limelight! Big C, please make sure he knows we Bengals fans love what he does on the field and the way he goes about it. Classy young man - hope to see him in a Bengals uni for a loooooong time!

Definitely a fan of AJ, Dalton, and the resurgent Bengals this year. Hopefully our string of success continues against Baltimore this week and that AJ can contribute to that. No matter how the season finishes, and I think it will finish well, I am very proud of the accomplishments the team has and think that there are more good years to come.

I just hope AJ, Andy,Jay Gruden, and the rest of this year’s team don’t get “bungalized” like Marvin Lewis and past promising Bengal teams.

I’m hearing Marvin Lewis is running 2nd to Jim Harbaugh in the Coach of the Year award polls; if it were held today. Nice. If Marvin pulls it out, he’ll have won twice in 3 years.
