‘Catching’ up with A.J. Green

When I approached A.J. Green’s representatives, CAA Sports, about doing a weekly chat with the Bengals’ standout rookie receiver, they were skeptical. I was told Green’s dedication to football might get in the way.

Surprisingly, Green said, “Tell him I’ll call him after work on Monday.”
That’s right. He refers to practice as WORK, which I found interesting and a testament to his professionalism and work ethic.
First, an injury update. Green hyperextended his right knee after an acrobatic touchdown grab Sunday in the loss to Pittsburgh. He said the knee remains a little stiff but thinks he’ll be ready to go Sunday against Baltimore.
Big C: What is your favorite restaurant?
A.J.: I love Outback! (laugh)
Big C: What do you usually order?
A.J.: I usually get the porterhouse steak, two lobster tails and a salad.
Big C: Being from the South, where do you get your soul food fix up north?
A.J.: My parents are up here a lot since moving me in this summer, so I don’t have to go very far (laugh). They do a lot of cooking. It’s definitely a blessing to have them here.
Big C: What is your favorite TV show?
A.J.: Oh, I like to watch Storage Wars. I bet you can find a lot of good deals there. (laugh)
Big C: Bargain shopper?
A.J.: Wise shopper! (laugh)
Big C: This is for the ladies. Are you single?
A.J.: No, no, no! I’ve been with my girlfriend for 3 1/2 years.
Big C: What is the most unique thing you can tell me about teammate Geno Atkins?
A.J.: The guy is incredibly powerful. When I came to the University of Georgia everybody talked about how strong he was. I remember how he would be on the sideline saying I’m going to make a play. Sure enough, Geno would go out there and get a sack.
Thanks A.J.!
