Bengals building depth at running back
With running back Brian Leonard expected to play more of an H-back role in the Bengals offense this season, the team is looking to add depth behind starter Cedric Benson and Bernard Scott.
Cincinnati on Tuesday claimed halfback Cedric Peerman off waivers from the Detroit Lions. The team’s interest in the back comes as no surprise.
The Bengals coaching staff became quite enamored with the runner during last year’s Senior Bowl. The 5-foot-9, 210-pound Peerman was one of those prospects who responded well to running backs coach Jim Anderson during the week of practice in Mobile. The Bengals coached the North squad in 2009 Under Armour Senior Bowl, which Peerman participated.
“Coach Anderson helped me with my footwork and gave me pointers of things to work on while in Mobile,” Peerman said in an interview. “What he told me has really helped me out thus far. Coach was very good to talk to because he was so real. He was so truthful and wasn’t going to sugarcoat anything. I just enjoyed being around him and that whole experience.”
Peerman has a thick build and is a tough inside runner with speed to run outside. He has good vision and shows good lateral mobility in the hole. He demonstrates good balance, body control after initial contact and is a great short-yardage runner. He’s a reliable receiver out of the backfield, catching 44 passes as a senior.
In other team news, former Reading High School running back DeShawn Wynn will workout for the Bengals today. Wynn was not tendered a contract by Green Bay this offseason making him a free agent. He rushed for 332 yards and five touchdowns during his three-year pro career with the Packers. He’s best described as a Stephen Davis type bruising runner. According to agent Christina Phillips, Wynn is also scheduled to workout for the New York Giants on Friday.

Tim, how can you be a Steelers fan with Santonio Holmes and Big Ben on your team? Oh, I forgot you traded Holmes to the Jets. Is Big Ben next? He deserves a lot more than a 6 game suspension. If the “normal folk” did something like that (twice), we would be in jail. Ben says he is sorry. I think it is a bunch of BS. I think the Bengals will the North again this year.

Wow. Reading some of these you would never know the Bengals won the North last year. Get rid of twinkle toes? QB looked like a scared kid? M, you were never a Bengals fan in the first place!!! The Bengals may have had some character issues in the past. None like the steelers have with Ben. That guy is just plain nasty. Half his teammates cant stand him. Bengals have a tough schedule this year, but, I think they will do good. Jeff, if you had checked out the Bengals wed site you would see that he graded the Bengals draft as a B.

Go Steelers? Are you from Pittsthug? The Steelers are embarassing the whole NFL with their gang and thug ways. They should fire Tomlin for letting such scum of the earth types even in the league. I guess Pittsthug just tolerates the Crips and Bloods mentality.

Maybe another DT and S and we will be set for another campaign. Maybe we can pick up one of these free agent releases. There has been a few good ones released in the last few days. Im not sure how close we are to the cap but maybe Mike Brown will let loose of some cash for a good run. Otherwise we will be like alot of other teams. One key injury and we will fold. Maybe even a good OT to give Palmer some insurance in case a lineman is injured which happens daily it seems.
