DE Ellis interested in Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals, who are steadily trying to improve the team’s pass-rush, have expressed interest in former Dallas Cowboys defensive end Greg Ellis who was released by the club on Tuesday.

Ellis’ agent, James D. Williams, confirmed earlier today that the Bengals are one of five teams that expressed immediate interest in the pass-rusher after his release from Dallas.

Ellis would be reunited with defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer should he land in Cincinnati. It is expected that Ellis would be moved back to his natural defensive end position in the Bengals defense and work in rotation with Robert Geathers and Antwan Odom.

No visit has been scheduled for Ellis, but I’m told that further contact between the two sides is expected.

Got to be a record for significant FA signings. Whats up with the Bengals? Three decent drafts in a row; good gets this year in FA. Almost starting to think the Bengals want to win more than they lose this year.

I truly believe that the Bengals will turn things around this season. It appears that owner Mike Brown is given Marvin Lewis more leeway to call some shots or a little more rope to hang himself. I like what the Bengals are doing but still question the team’s running game. However, I expect them to compete with the Steelers this year.

As someone said it never hurts to have to many good football players.Ellis might be just the guy to push this defense just a little higher up the hill.It does make you wonder if Mikey-boy is letting Marvin have more say in the final calls.

For the record,Ellis was practicing in OTA’s in the 1st string,if we do sign him, look for a major cut in either Geathers or Fanene, and it IMO its Robert Geathers because Fanene can double as a DT or DE and would be better on the salary cap savings, where I like what the Bengals are trying to dyo on defense,I wished they would upgrade on the OL,wayyy too many players with notn many snaps in the NFL,you cant protect Palmer,we seen whats thee results are on 3 and out, heres myh solution,on cut down day, gwet some real talent to protect Palmer, then, tell Cha d enthis, remember what happen when you came in late with TJ and put us behind, you are now on the 2nd or 3rd team, you want it,earn it,or watch a hungrier player thats supfports the team instead of himself,I druther watch a player that wants it then one that wants to tare it down and can careless about the Real Fan..Think About It.

Where are the Bengals sitting on spending under the cap ? Sure obtain Ellis and cut GEathers but make sure you sign a starting offensive lineman or say goodbye to Carson Palmer because the NFL will trash our line as it stands. Not enough time together.

Geathers had knee microfracture surgery this year. Might explain the interest in Ellis. Microfracture surgery, as I understand it, is hit or miss for an NFL player.

It all looks good on paper, but the game is played on the field! Go Steelers!

Tim: Agreed 100% even if you are a Steelers fan. We will be better but not sure if we are ready to challenge the champs. Geathers has been a big bust since his contract. He did get moved around a bit from de to lb, even still, coming off injury, if he doesn’t respond, I don’t see the need of paying him and welcome a Greg Ellis to the team until Johnson can develop.
