Palmer’s stance, labor unrest will force Bengals to draft QB

Word is that Carson Palmer has declared he will never set foot in Paul Brown Stadium again.

He claims to have $80 million in the bank and I have no reason to doubt him. Palmer doesn’t seem like the type to waste his money like many pro athletes do.

The problem is, Palmer has picked the worst possible time to demand a trade.

The Bengals, specifically Mike Brown, can’t even listen to trade offers or package deals that might include draft picks. There is no collective bargaining agreement and it doesn’t look like there will be anytime soon.

The NFL is headed for a lockout and there will be no wheeling and dealing by anyone until the players and owners come to an agreement.

So, what do you do if you’re the Bengals?

Brown must realize that he won’t win this battle with Palmer, even though he won’t admit it publicly. He and head coach Marvin Lewis must be contemplating what to do about the most important position on the team.

And really, there’s just one choice: draft a QB.

Cincinnati won’t be able to trade for a QB anytime soon and I doubt even Brown thinks backup Jordan Palmer or third-stringer Dan LeFevour can do the job.

Plus, the Bengals need something - anything - to get the fans back and drive ticket sales.

Now THAT is something Brown understands.

Enter Cam Newton.

The Auburn QB is a physical marvel and exciting, but unpolished and a bit of wild card in terms of his ability to run an NFL offense and make accurate throws against pro defenses.

I’d prefer the Bengals take Blaine Gabbert of Missouri, who I think is the most NFL-ready.

Another option would be to fill another need in the first round and take a QB in the second round. There will be plenty of options available, like Jake Locker of Washington.

Which way will the Bengals go?

All you have to do is look at what sells, and that’s Newton.

Let’s just hope he’s not another Akili Smith or David Klingler.

I have been a Bengals fan for 20 years. I do not want to see them take Cam Newton. They are just asking for mnore trouble and honestly a QB in first round never pans out. Take care of your secondary first maybe beef up your line to protect a QB and take one in the second round. I agree with Gabbert or Locker or even Ryan Mallet for that matter. Don’t blow another pick on Cam “Akili Smith” Newton.

New internet buzz has them trading him to Denver for Brady Quinn, who will be a 1 year temp guy till new QB is ready…

Hey “Tired”, there’s no chance Gabbert, Locker, or Mallett will be there in round 2. And QBs taken past the first round rarely pan out as stars. CINC has to take a QB or trade for Kevin Kolb of Philly.

I heard he’s selling his house because things have gotten so out of hand that even his MAIL is getting intercepted! Lol.

If they were smart they would have given LeFevour some playing time at the end of last year to see how he does. He has the potential if giving the opportunity to be a franchise QB but because everyone counted on palmer who is washed up anyway we are in the situation we are in. I have be a bengals fan since I could walk and it never fails that the rich people in the office always screw us. Like this season who cares about TO and OCHO benson got us to the playoffs and could have done it again had he been given the ball more. But leave it to the big shot who inherited a team and knows jack about football.

Brady Quinn?! Why? I’d take Jordan Palmer first. Or bring Troy Smith back to Ohio. At least the fans would care (for awhile)…

I rather see the bengals draft a.j. green or julio jones and look for a vet QB like Kolb. Dont draft a rookie QB all those guys are questionable.

They need to trade for a QB. Drafting one and expecting him to step in and start is conceeding the season. Find a serviceable QB, and draft for the lines. Time to rebuild.

Every year, I think it’s impossible for Bungle watching to get any funnier. And then I get proved wrong. It’s the ultimate dilemma: What should you laugh at first? Mike Brown’s Three Stooges comedy act of failures or the antics of the anguished Sheep who irrationally hold on to the myth that is a serious NFL Team. Thank you, Carson. And I don’t blame you. Why should you continue being killed for lack of protection from Mikey’s Practice Squad O-linemen? It’s win-win. You get to leave the Toxic Waste Dump in Cincinnati and I get to laugh at the Bungles and their agonized Sheep yet again. It’s a wonderful life. May the Agony of the Sheep endure forever.

As a lifelong Bengals fan, and a former loyal supporter of Palmer ,he can take his deer-in-the-headlights, interception throwing a$$..wait a minute, to be fair, there is no doubt his 1.54-1 career TD-interception ratio and zero playoff wins in 8 years is a sure ticket to Canton… to Buffalo, Detroit, Carolina, Cleveland,(hard to find places where he would even be an upgrade at this point0…adios, and way to waste the best natural talent in the league

If they can’t convince Palmer to play this year they should not draft a QB this year. Andrew Luck will be #1 next year. Let Palmer walk, sign a free agent that can play a year or two but won’t win many games and try to get the #1 pick to get Luck. He is better than any of the QBs coming out this year anyway.

TrooperHook - you really need to get a life. To make fun of a team is sort of being childish or an a$$hole. I don’t think the Bengals will ever be great but I am not a hateful spiteful person to make jabs at Bengal fans. By the way, I am a Bengals fan. I would trade for a QB. Most drafted QB do not pan out. College is not the NFL. Most of the good college QBs get destroyed in the NFL.

def have to trade for a QB and there was an article on here a few weeks ago that quoted soloman wilcots (sp?). Trade to philly for kolb or trade to sea for extra draft picks. just do it so we can move on. i don’t want palmers demands dragging this team down any further… btw, losing palmer will NOT hurt. we won 4 games last year… can’t get any worse.

More proof that Mikey Brown is a moron. He entered last year with no viable backup QB (He should have kept Ryan Fitzpatrick who he cut to save a few bucks). If he still had Ryan - then he would at least have a viable QB this year. No way should he draft Cam!

Why is it that everytime TrooperHook comments it always involves sheep? I think there is something very sick going on in dude’s mind or what is left of it. Dude is obssessed with sheep. I guess when that is the only animal that will reciprocate your feelings you have no other choice.

Palmer deserves to play on a real NFL team, he telling us that the Bengals aren’t going to change and aren’t going to be competitive as long as the Brown family continues to find ticket buyers, Earl Pitts would say WAKE UP CINCINNATI!!!

cam newton will be the first QB to go an he’s not going to the panters boys an girls were the only one’s in the top 4 that need a QB now. I would rather get a QB then a wide out because we have 2 good ones behind to an chad in shipley an greshham.

I like Ryan Mallet, he’s a palmer before Kimo. That being said palmer can take his sorry butt and his 80 mil and hit the bricks. What a sorry excuse for a QB the past 4 years.

I know the City of Cincinnati would never allow it, but Jordan Palmer was impressive in last year’s preseason. He’d make one stupid, nervous mistake in his first series, but then he’d settle down and make all the throws. He has all the touch throws, has a gun, looked off defenders and has the size to see the field. He also has two good knees. You spend that much time practicing as the No. 2, you’re going to improve. Bengals probably will pick Gabbert and start him and we’ll suffer for it. Trooperhook is a moron.

I like a trade for Kolb or even John Skelton and some draft picks rather than start a QB draft pick. There is no Sam Bradford in this draft. It’s unfortunate that Jordan Palmer didn’t get a start in the middle of the season when it no longer mattered and Carson was banged up. Missed opportunity.

Feed Up the pro’s always telling us how much money they have . Carson hasn’t do anything for this team for about five years . Let him go to another team with a weaker off. line and see how he does . GOOD LUCK AND GOODBY .

We messed up not drafting Troy Smith. Now he is available. He won three games for a last place (SF)team. Electrify your base Ohio fans. Troy beat Michigan and Texas. He is a mobile QB.Bring him in and let him show Ohio what he can do.

If Palmer doesn’t want to be here…then he needs to go. He’s been terrible ever since he got injured the first time. Brown needs to make a trade, but he won’t. He never trades players who ask for a trade. Anyway, I was born a Bengals fan, I’m used to the disapointment…At least I have the Buckeyes, and they’re even having issues right now. What’s up with Ohio Football??

Palmer is a great QB, but he is having issues, we can’t wait for him to click again. Regardless a franchise is always looking for QBs, its just a matter of what round your gonna burn your pick.

sorry, Palmer WAS a great QB. I was also wondering if we should beef up our left tackle? I agree with “tired” and “bill”. newton, locker, gabbert and the boys wont be around after the first round. We need to take the chance on one of them, then spend some picks on the line. What kind of pick could we trade Carson for??

the bengals are gonna draft the same way they do every year.draft a defensive back or a defensive end.they never draft an offensive lineman.which is what they need badly. protect the quarterback brown family-hint,hint.

By Colts fan in western Ohio

April 13, 2011 8:05 PM | Link to this

Bengals fans had better learn to accept the fact that the Colts and Steelers are the most popular NFL teams in the Ohio-Indiana-Michigan-western Pennsylvania region. It’s been quite clear that Carson Palmer can’t compete with Peyton Manning nor Ben Roethlisberger. After the Steelers won Super Bowl XL, the Bengals thought it was going to be their year, except one thing- they were too busy looking to seek retribution, against the Steelers for their AFC Wild Card round failure that they overlooked the Colts, who BTW were undefeated at home(10-0) in the 2006-07 season. Moreover, in Super Bowl XLI in the falling rain in Miami Gardens, Fla., the Colts beat the Bears, 29-17 and succeeded the Steelers as Super Bowl champions(Peyton Manning was named MVP of that game; he and the Colts gave way to brother Eli and the Giants in Super Bowl XLII). The bottom line is the Colts and Steelers will remain the top two teams in the region, until the Lions, Browns and Bengals finally get off the turf and start doing some business on a consistent basis. Till that day, both the blue and white and the black and gold will continue to call the state of Ohio their second home.

i think carson palmer needs to quit being a crybaby and play the game like he use to i had a feeling last year that he wasnt really playing for us i think pittsburg and baltimore paid him to suck if u remember we won the division flat out year before last we would be better with anybody other than palmer hes a crybaby.

Go ahead and leave the team that stood by you during and after your injury and rehab. That is the way it’s done in the USA. Bite the hand that fed you. Good riddance to bad rubbish. I used to care. He can take that worthless clone brother of his with him.
