Marvin Lewis re-signed, staying with Bengals

It’s official: Marvin Lewis is here to stay.

The Bengals today re-signed Marvin Lewis as head coach. Coach Lewis and Bengals president Mike Brown will hold a news conference at 4:30 p.m. today in the interview room at Paul Brown Stadium.

Lewis will be in his ninth Bengals season as head coach in 2011, setting a franchise record for head coaching tenure. In 2010, he equaled the eight-season tenures of Paul Brown (1968-75) and Sam Wyche (1984-91).

Lewis was the consensus choice as NFL Coach of the Year in 2009, when the Bengals won the AFC North Division title, and his teams are among a minority of NFL clubs (14 of 32) which have won two division titles in the last six years.

I have been a life-long fan of the Bengals, throughout the good years and the bad years, but if they bring back the Lewis and Palmer Show for 2011-2012, I am finished; it will prove to me once and for all that the owner(s) don’t have a clue and don’t care, so why should I?

The Bengals need to get rid of the side show with Owens and Ochocinco. Maybe then they can concentrate on playing serious football. Owens wasn’t to see any major action as a backup but instead Lewis decided to play him. He’s a has been just like Ochocinco. There’s just too many good players out there to let this continue.

I’m okay with this if Brown is meeting more of Lewis’s wish list, specifically regarding the scouting area. The team is in desperate need of help in that area. Owens won’t be back, Benson won’t be back, Palmer will, Chad probably will simply b/c he is cheap based on his current option. If Lewis is back, then he needs to clean house starting with Bratkowski, but keep Zimmer by all means. Revamp the Oline, especially the right side and get some fresh play-calling.

They call them “The Bungals” for a good reason. How many “winning seasons” since 1968?

Goodbye, Bengals, Hello Ravens! No more Lewis for me…

Thank goodness. Marvin turned this thing around 8 years ago, and by far was not the problem this year. Lets not forget, we were in the playoffs just one short year ago. Marvin has brought us there twice. He is the only proven leader on the team. He would be irreplaceble, a new coach would set this team back another decade.

Mike Brown is still calling the shots, so this organization has no hope. It’ll be the same story next year, and Bengals fans will continue to bend over and say to Mike Brown “Thank you sir…may I have another?!”

It’s hard to be a Bengal fan living in the middle of The Steeler Nation and learn they are keeping Lewis, what a joke!

Another year of watching the Bungles… UGH. I’ve got to get NFL Sunday Ticket next year so I’m not forced to watch them.

By painfultruth

January 4, 2011 4:33 PM | Link to this

And you stupid sports fanatics complain, yet you fill the stadium every Sunday, buy overpriced “official” NFL gear, and go into cardiac arrest if the game isn’t on TV. What a sad commentary on a society filled with “jock lovers” that feel anybody that can throw a ball is worth millions a year, but doctors and business people are all overpaid! Oh well, if it weren’t for the morons following pro sports, what else would they do, pick their noses on Sunday?

Exactly why I don’t follow major league sports cause all the owners care about is their bottom line,”MONEY”and not the fans!

I am officially no longer a Bengals fan. Its obvious this franchise cares nothing about winning, only about political correctness. Good riddance, Bengals and Marvin. You will stink again next season too.

Don’t buy the tickets, the gear and don’t complain when there are blackouts. Send the message you are unhappy with high prices, poor play and arrogance by both Bengal Management and especially Lewis. The only way to stop bad behaviour is to punish it on the spot. When you get your ticket renewal..send it back. You can always go to Indy and watch real football and a winner.

Move the Bungals OUT of Cincinnati, maybe to a nice place like: Minot, North Dakaota!!! The Brown’s will win the division before the Bungals will win it!!!

Who cares - this team is strictly a side show with the current crew. Next fall, go out and watch some good college ball in our area. With our country going down the toilet, this is not one of my concerns.

Im actually starting to feel sorry for Bungal fans. First, i dont care if you would have hired Bill Cowher. It wouldnt have mattered. Mike Brown would have overruled everything he tried to do. (See Chris Henry, Chad Johnson) So you might as well have stuck with Lewis. No coach can turn around this mess with an owner who gets in the way because he thinks he is as smart as his daddy. Second, its hilarious to see the so called “Natti fan” jumping ship. What a bunch of fair weather fans. As a Browns fan, i would cut off my you know what before id ever root for Pitt or Baltimore. And Id rather die than root for the Natti. You guys are so jealous of the Browns and Mike Holmgren it makes you sick. Admit it. At least we have someone in charge who knows what the heck they are doing and wont stand for loosing. Enjoy another 10 years of horrible football.

All you Bengal fans who complain about Marvin Lewis are morons. He’s a good coach, and your not going to get anyone better. They need a new Offensive Coordinator, Zimmer is a great D-Coordinator. Get rid of Chad, bring back TO, and draft AJ Green from Georgia. All the other pieces are there. May need a RB in the second round, then get some defensive help. Your not that far away, Palmer is not the problem, and neither is Lewis…

Didnt the Bengals beat every team in their division last season? The browns win a couple games and suddenly think they are the cream of the crop? If its Brown flush it down my friend..

I’m glad he has resigned, however, I don’t think they are worth the money they get paid! It’s to commercial anymore. They need to cut back on all their pay! There is a resession going on!

What a shame and sad news for Bengals fans. Palmer, Ocho, Lewis, Owens… get rid of them ALL! Owner sucks, coach sucks, team really sucked this year. How in the world do you go from crushing your division the year before to reverting to the bungles of old????? I don’t get it!

Nick M- Im not sure what you’re talking about. A lot of Bengals fans are jealous of how good the Ravens and especially Steelers have been lately. But why would we be jealous of the Browns? You guys haven’t won the division in how many years? You can’t even pick what city you want to stay in. Believe me when I say, we’re not jealous of you, or any of your C+ players (minus Haden, Cribbs and Mack, your roster lacks any serious talent). Go annoy some other people

I like the fact that Marvin is coming back, he was never the problem, it has & always will be Mike Brown. Marvin has had non losing seasons 5 of his 8 years & w/out Chad & TO next year & hopefully someone new bringing a fresh offensive system to the Jungle everyone will see that the WHO DEY is a team to be reckoned with!

Just stop going to the games. Stop buying the seat licenses and tickets. Bengals as a product are a huge joke and if these foolish fans keep buying the tickets then nothing will change. Stop the abuse.

By Insanity

January 5, 2011 3:48 PM | Link to this

Keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Folks need to stop spending their money on this pathetic product. Until then Mike Brown will laugh at you all the way to the bank. Seat licensing is the biggest rip off of the century.

By Suckers!

January 5, 2011 4:43 PM | Link to this

I feel real bad for all the dummies that buy these seat licenses. Wow what fool buys a license which then gives you the right to buy the ticket for the seat. Like this is some type of investment. Might be if the team did not stink and the owner was making an effort to do something other than make a bigger profit. Hell, Brown already ripped off the taxpayers of Hamilton County. People sure is dumb. On top of it all these morons keep downing $8 beers.
