Bengals to sign Larry Johnson, report says

ESPN is reporting that former Kansas City running back Larry Johnson is on his way to Cincinnati to sign with the Bengals.

Johnson, once an all-pro, was released by the Chiefs recently after a 2-week suspension for making gay slurs on Twitter.

Johnson, who turns 30 Nov. 19, is a former All-Pro who broke Kansas City’s rushing record in both 2005 and 2006.

I’m offended by the idiot. Not sure why anyone would want this jerk on their team.

Excellent signing. Should be good insurance for Benson and hopefully LJ will allow Ced to lower his workload the rest of the year. It will be interesting to see if Cincinnati will actually activate 5 RB’s each week

Worth a shot. Im thinking all of his antics were to egt out of KC, now thats hes out I think we will get a good Back.

He’s a half year insurance policy if Cedric’s injury should continue to sideline him. They are a different team without him on the field. Jerk or not, bad people play every Sunday in NFL or any sport for that matter.

Great Signing, why wouldnt it be? adding depth to an already contending team. It is not like they are signing him to be their feature and future back. they are basically going to get him for nothing. Keep it up Bengals!

I just hope that they keep B Scott active and let him return punts and kickoffs! Acquiring LJ is a very strategic move. Kudos. Who Dey!

Sounds like a move back to the pro blems of the past. Another trouble maker in Cincinnati.

Nothing like a little insurance before the bad weather starts. Scott should still get the bulk of the carries if Benson’s injury lingers at least until LJ lears the offense. WHO DEY!!!

pro-rated league minimum is what they expect to pay for this guy…I think this is HUGE. Plus, he’s got something to prove now…just like Ced did coming into this season. @Common Cents As far as I can see we’ve only had 3 RB on our active roster - Benson, Leonard, and Scott. James Johnson on the practice squad.

What do we care about his personality. It’s football. We don’t care if they are good people or not, just need to be the right kind of thug.

Johnson will most likely be inactive for all of the games unless Benson cannot play. Johnson does not know the playbook so this is just an insurance policy for the rest of the year.

Jungle, dont forget about Jeremi Johnson .. The fullback would be the 5th back. Just makes you wonder what Marvin will do with the gameday roster each week. Scott and Leonard have to be active for Special Teams and 3rd downs. Does he maybe trust Quan Cosby to be his 4th wideout?

Isnt all these jerks, criminals and parolees a probation or Parole violation? Can a huddle for the bengals result in associating with known criminals?

If the Bengals and Marvin can rehab Cedric Benson, Chris Henry, and Tank Johnson. Then why not Larry Johnson?According to everyone else, they were BAD GUYS too and look how that has worked out.I could care less if he is a thug or not.All I want is a ring for my Bengals at all cost.We are like the old Raiders and I hang my hat on that.

Good insurance policy, who cares if he used a gay slur or not? I’m sure those happen every day, get over it! I don’t recall hearing about him getting in any real trouble with the law.

We got a bunch of junkyard dogs playing for us now. That’s exactly how great teams are built.

LJ is washed up. After seeing Marshall Faulk show film on the NFL Network of his current play it is confirmed that he has not only lost a step or two, but his vision just isn’t there anymore. Furthermore, he has been know to cause distractions in the clubhouse. However, I am not surprised that Cincy went this route. This won’t be the first or the last screw up that the front office will make. Remember Ki-Jana Carter, David Klingler and Peter Warrick ???

I think this was a good choice as a back up plan. All the Bengals haters can’t put the Bengals down for their talent so they have to start being judgemental. This is called jealously. Half of you people changed your names on this blog because you were totally wrong about the bengals and now you are grasping at straws.

Saying teh management is making bad choices is just plain stupid. the choices they have made the last 3 years have gotten us to 7-2 this year. LJ could be a good pick up if he has learned from his mistakes. he also is coming to a winning team and should see him self as someone who could contribute. If he does then he will be a great pick up if not cut him quick. Cedric Benson grew up and took the opportunity by the horns and look what we got. Hopefull the veterans will keep him in line. Worth the risk. It also tells me there may be more to the injury with Benson.

The Bengals are sitting at 7-2. Any chance you have to make your team better you take it.

Hey Kevin M, LJ will have a chip on his shoulder, and at this point in his career he just wants to win the big one. This resembles a pretty good back with “distraction troubles” leaving Who Dey for New England and did pretty good for them, Corey Dillon. He didn’t seem to cause any distractions for that team. I have made a gay slur or 2 in my life, and if you are a football fan, or not gay then you probably have too, so lets don’t be so naive. He just wanted out of KC. Great sign WHO DEY.

Could be a problem if the veterans on the team accept him with open arms without sitting him down him first and letting him in on the fact that here, there will be no room for any malcontents and individuals who aren’t playing to win. Spell it out to him plainly that all he is is insurance and as long as he contributes and works hard, there may just be a Superbowl ring in it for him. One false move and he’ll find himself back baggin groceries.

Johnson has been arrested four times since 2003 on various assault charges against women. In 2003, he was arrested for felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor domestic battery for waving a gun at his then-girlfriend, during an argument at his home. The charges were dropped when Johnson agreed to participate in a domestic violence diversion program. In 2005, he was again arrested for assault when a woman accused Johnson of pushing her to the ground, but the case was dropped after the alleged victim failed to appear in court for three different hearings. His third arrest for assault came on February 24, 2008, after allegedly pushing a woman’s head at a nightclub that night. On October 10, 2008, Johnson was arrested for the fourth time and charged with one count of non-aggravated assault for allegedly spitting a drink in a woman’s face at a Kansas City nightclub on October 11. Finally…some one to slap the bitches around.
