Bengals more than 3,000 tickets from sellout

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE; THURS., OCT. 15, 2009 FROM CINCINNATI BENGALS PUBLIC RELATIONS

BENGALS SECURE 24-HOUR EXTENSION FOR BLACKOUT DECISION ON HOUSTON GAME

The NFL today extended by 24 hours the deadline by which a sellout must be reached to permit local television coverage of Sunday’s 1 p.m. Bengals game vs. Houston at Paul Brown Stadium.

Games normally must be sold out 72 hours prior to kickoff for lifting of the local TV blackout, but the deadline for this week has been shortened to 48 hours, giving the club until 1 p.m. tomorrow (Friday).

“We thank our fans for stepping up with a good run of support the last few days, bringing us close enough to get this extension,” said Katie Blackburn, Bengals executive vice-president.

“We are continuing to work to lift the blackout. It’s unclear if we will make it - we have more than 3,000 tickets to go - but we have great fans and hope we can reach the level that allows our sellout streak to continue.”

The Bengals have sold out their last 46 regular-season and postseason games, breaking a franchise-record streak of 43 that was set at Riverfront Stadium between 1988 and 1992.

If the game is sold out by 1 p.m. Friday, it will be televised live in the Bengals home market on CBS affiliates WKRC-TV (Channel 12) in Cincinnati, WHIO-TV (Channel 7) in Dayton and WKYT-TV (Channel 27) in Lexington, Ky.

Seriously, why can’t we sell out these home games?

By Mike

Because the “cheap” tickets are way too expensive.

Why? Mike Brown. People are sick of his ownership.

I looked to see how much 2 “cheap” tickets would be and the lowest price was around $145.

It has nothing to do with Mike Brown but nice opinion. People are cutting back on spending, we are in the middle of a recession. Tickets aren’t anymore or are actually less than seeing any stupid rock concert so its not the ticket prices.

Don’t schedule any more home games with the Texans. It seems these are the games that have trouble selling out!

At least at a rock concert you know you are going to get a good show. You never know what you’re going to get with the Bungals.

The real problem is twofold the fans here are fair-weather drunks, and secondly who wants to go anywhere near downtown and have to deal with hilljacks in the stands…

Couldn’t the ownership discount the ticket price, then buy those 3,000 tickets themselves and give them to a children’s charity or something? They owe the Bengals fans so much more than that after all we’ve been through with this organization. I’ve heard the Bears game is close to sold out. Mikey ought to man-up and treat the Cincy fans to a live televised game.

I think its the greedy NFL. If MLB had that rule there would never be a game on tv. I believe that the NFL needs to rethink this rule during this recession were in.

I think B MAN said it! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve flipped on a baseball game and seen a lot of empty seats. Pure NFL greed.

Funny… the 4-1 division leading Bengals can’t sell out games… The Steelers haven’t had that problem in a few decades whether they were having a good or bad season. It’s not the NFL’s problem, it’s the Bengals’ and their fans’ problem. Very very few NFL teams ever have this issue, and the Bengals would have had it all 3 home games so far this year were it not for Kroger, and Steelers fans driving out here.

It’s just a scam to get all the squeeler & brown(stain)s fans excited about the possibility of seeing their sorry teams on tv. LOL The Bengals will sell out and will be on tv.

So where are all the hicks at when you really need them? So much for die hard fans I say that the majority of Bungle fans are fair-weathered.

It gets to be asking a bit much for me to shell out a minimum of $60 per ticket just so someone else can watch it for free on TV.

The Bengals have the second cheapest tickets in the entire NFL. Like week 1 of this season, the Bengals will give the remaining tickets away on Friday at a discount to Wright-Patterson AFB and National Guard/Reservists Centers in the Cincy area. The game will be sold out and televised. I find it especially funny for Steeler fans not from Pennsylvania to talk about being “fair weather”. These are the same people who were big Cowboy fans back in the 90s, and Niners fans in the 80s. They’ll latch on to whatever team they think is going to the Super Bowl. At least the Brown fans around here are mostly old, crusty dudes who can still remember the days when Cleveland was the only pro team in Ohio, and are still sticking with their team all these years. The Steeler fans around here are totally bandwagon fans. Down with Cleveland!Down with Shittsburgh! Down with Mike Brown! Who-Dey! Go Bengals!

Poor Bungles… You’all have the best season in YEARS and STILL have a hard time filling the stadium! Don’t worry, the fair weather bandwagon fans (you all have a REPUTATION for) will respond soon and buy the rest of the tickets!! LMAO!! GO STEELERS !!!

Why should I buy a ticket when I have all these fans who are going to do it for me and I can watch it on tv. This way I can stay inside the comfort of my home and not freeze my butt off.

geronimo———- The Bengals sellout streak is at 46 games. I have a hard time hearing the word “bandwagon.” This is simply what happens in a down economy….. ONE playoff game during that streak and still have sold out damn near 6 seasons sounds like a preaty loyal fan base….

rumor is Chad and Motorola bought the remaining tickets!
