Wife of Bengals assistant coach passes away

Extremely sad news today:

STATEMENT FROM THE CINCINNATI BENGALS FRI., OCT. 9, 2009

Vikki Zimmer, the wife of Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, passed away Thursday in Cincinnati.

The Zimmers were married for 27 years, with three children. Vikki Zimmer was born in Layton, Utah. She and Mike met during Mike’s coaching tenure (1981-88) at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.

“We are stunned and saddened to learn of Vikki’s passing,” said Bengals president Mike Brown. “She was a warm and popular person in the Bengals family, and our immense respect and affection for Mike makes this especially hard. Our hearts go out to Mike and his family.”

“Mike is part of our Bengals family, and we’ll support him in every way we can,” said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis. “We will dearly miss Vikki. She was a friend to all of us, and a big supporter of Mike’s players. Her thoughtfulness to them in so many ways will also be greatly missed.”

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Mike Zimmer, a 10-year defensive coordinator in the NFL, is in his second season with the Bengals.

Was this unexpected? Was she sick? How old was she? What happened? What impact will this have on Sunday’s game? Even if you don’t have these answers yet they’ve got to be addressed in the blog.

To Jeremy: I can’t believe you asked “What impact this will have on Sundays game” a wife, mother daughter was lost you ask about the game. WOW only a bengals back yard fan would ask such a question. I’m sure coach will be mourning the passing of his wife and I’m sure the family won’t be thinking of the game, IDIOT!!!!!

To Thinkaboutit: It’s the world we have created. The media usually addresses that issue, so fans, regardless of team choice, usually wonder anymore. Although it is unsensitive to ask the question, it is expected for the media to address the issue. That is just society these days, I am saddened to say.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the Zimmer family and the Bengals community. May she rest in peace.

I provided a list of things that should have been addressed in this article and that includes how this will impact Sunday’s game. It’s called journalism and it’s an absolutely legitimate question to ask.

My son, you always tell me that blogs are not journalism, they are blogs, so maybe there is no need to “provide all the pertinent information”. Are blogs journalism or not, now becomes the question.

I eblieve if you check the blog spot of the print media which covers the Bengals in their home city that you will appreciate their blog more, my son. I tried to add a link but DDn blocked it. When you can snatch the pebble from my hand grasshopper.

I’ll further support your point, dear father, by pointing out that this isn’t really an article but a press release from the Bengals. I’ll therefore withdraw my journalistic concerns since journalists didn’t write it. I give blogs a break on spelling and style, not on missing key, obvious elements.

To Jeremy: Why don’t you just admit you were wrong!!!! It will put your very small brain at ease, and due to its size it won’t take long!!!!

I did admit to being wrong since this is a press statement and not the work of a DDN blogger. Is there something else I need to cop to? Would you feel better if I added seventeen exclamation points after each sentence?

To Jeremy: Obviously your one of those people that needs a coloring book to lay out so you understand. I was referring to your idiotic comment asking if the death of the coaches wife is going to effect the game on Sunday!!!! I mean are you kidding me, do you not get that your statement is very inappropriate…..There is your coloring book would you like to color now, buddy???? The man just lost his wife and your worried about the effect on Sundays game…There I colored it for you too…..Do you get it now????

To Ben: Oh, now that hurt, you called me Stinkabout. I’ll accept that on this issue which is ok when talking with a couple of ignorant people who could use a little help with compassion and humility. I’m sorry please forgive me for saying what needed to be said, please no more names your hurting my feelings…..Ok your not but it sounded good.

Thinkaboutit, I’ll give this one more shot. I was criticizing the article, not worrying about the game. There were very obvious and important information gaps and I pointed that out. I retracted that when I saw that it was a press release. In an actual article, written by a reporter, the points I laid out should be there. What happened? How old was she? Was she ill? Are you still with me, Thinkaboutit? And I would also expect a line like “Head coach Marvin Lewis, a former NFL defensive coordinator, will call defensive plays in Zimmer’s absence.” Now feel free to go crazy and get angry for no reason.

Dag, that’s heartbreaking. Coach Zimmer is a good guy and it was apparently not expected. To all, stop being narcissistic and show some sympathy instead of arguing about who’s right. Remember it’s a game.

While all of you were arguing about nonsense, Coach Zimmer and his entire family and the team were in Baltimore winning the game to honor his wife’s memory. Why, because that is what she would have wanted.

Thinkaboutit, you may want to think about checking YOUR grammar before calling anyone ignorant. You’re (what you meant to say instead of your) being a bit ironic otherwise. Just something to think about.

WOW, This man has to come home form Baltimore and bury his partne of 27 years and some jack* is worried about what effect it will have on the game because he bet money on it. I hope you lost. That was cold hearted dude.

Jeremy, you had valid questions”Was this unexpected? Was she sick? How old was she? What happened?” The first thing I did was google search on her cause of death. I couldn’t find anything. This appears to be a mysterious death so I am sure the police is treating the investigation as a possible homocide until the coroner’s toxicology report is released in 2 to 3 weeks. I believe the coroner stated that he didn’t expect fowl play. This is an indication that she apparently had either a pre-existing illness or unknown condition that caused her death. If you watch Forensic Files, Cold Case, etc. you never know what is the truth until the coroner’s complete report is released. So It’s best not to speculate. I pray that her family find peace in the midst of the storm. Her husband is like any other person with a job. If your father was found the same way would you go to work? Everybody reacts to grief in different ways. I remember Brett Farr’s father past away and Brett played that night to honor his father. Everybody relationsip is different.
