Elton John ballet launch scrubbed

The Dayton Ballet’s planned 2009 premiere to music by Elton John, “Rocket Man,” won’t be getting off the ground.

The singer-songwriter’s management, after previously granting preliminary approval to use his music, has revoked the rights.

Dayton Ballet spokesperson A. Diane Schoeffler-Warren said no reason was given. “Sir Elton’s people just decided not to let us use it. We’re all really disappointed.”

The new work was being choreographed for the Dayton Ballet by Washington Ballet artistic director Septime Webre, who began working with the dancers in November 2008.

The premiere was planned for a mixed-repertory program March 19-22. In its place, the company will revive Christopher Fleming’s comic ballet “Play Ball!” Weber’s “D-Construction” has also been added.

I suspect that ‘Sir Elton’ or his ‘people’ were afraid of the competition of Tommy :-) When asked when they might change their mind, a spokesman was overheard to say, “it’s gonna be a long, long, time.”

Dear Dayton, Someday you may be worthy of my music, but not now. I mistakenly granted you preliminary rights, but luckily my cute little boy toy caught the mistake and told me. Now you’ll have to do your ballet to Brooks and Dunn or whatever hillbilly music you dance to. P.S., please buy my next album.

Elton John wants his music debut to a “mixed-repertory program” to happen in a real city. Sorry folks but Dayton doesn’t qualify. All we have to do in this city is go eat at Outback, attend an illegal gambling house( because the voters in Ohio are to ignorant to pass a casino) and talk about a miamisburg women almost makin american idol, this qualifys as a boring wannabe town. I dont blame him for not wanting his music associated with a “ballet” preform in this city.
