Hemelgarn, Lazier bumped from 500, for now

Car owner Ron Hemelgarn, a Chaminade graduate, and driver Buddy Lazier were six minutes away from another Indianapolis 500 appearance on Saturday, May 16. The duo, who won the Indy 500 in 1996, will try again on Sunday.

Hemelgarn and Lazier get three attempts Sunday to bump their way into the field with the No. 91 car.

Said Lazier: “We ran a 219, and then we started slowing down. I think we will be OK tomorrow, but we will have to wait and see. We would have liked to get it in today, of course, but I have a lot of confidence in the team. We have a lot of data, and even today we picked up a lot of data. That data is very important. We are looking forward to going fast tomorrow.”
